Meet Emma Kopczynski of Little Emma’s Cakery in West of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Kopczynski.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I never had a career in mind. I was the only one out of all my friends who didn’t know where I wanted to go to college or what I wanted to pursue because my only dream was to be a mom. Yes. A mom! I graduated high school and two weeks later, I met my husband. I worked jobs here and there to help pay bills and just hoped that one day, I would be able to fulfill my dream. Then, one day, I decided to make my sister a cake. I made her an owl cake out of fondant. I obviously did not have any formal training and taught myself all the techniques. Naturally, it didn’t come easy. Art runs through my veins, so I definitely think that this gave me the edge I needed. After posting the final result on social media, I got so many people interested in me making cakes for their events. Nervously, I accepted and delivered. I instantly found a passion I never knew existed, and from there, my business started. Week after week, I was getting order requests. I stayed very, very busy.

Fast forward three years from that point… I had an 18 month old who I had the privilege of staying home to raise, along with keeping up with my order demands. I decided to venture out and enter the cookie decorating world. I have never looked back! Cookie decorating became my new passion. I was able to artistically express myself in a way I never was able to with cakes. I, eventually, weaned cakes out of my menu and began to only offer decorated sugar cookies. Fast forward again to now. I have three children that I stay home with. Little Emma’s Cakery is a business run from my home and only offers decorated sugar cookies. My personal life and my business life have had so many ups and downs. In the end, I can honestly say that I am living out my life long dream of being a mom, and I am also living out a newfound dream of owning a bakery.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not! I think with everything else in life, nothing comes easy. I would say that one of my biggest struggles is balance. Knowing that my first calling is being a SAHM, I had to prioritize. My heart is my family. I want to make sure that every night, I fall asleep knowing that I gave myself 100% to my family. However, Little Emma’s Cakery is also my love and my passion. In order to find the perfect balance, I only work at night after I put the kids to bed. Yes, it is exhausting. Yes, I struggle sometimes to get my orders finished in a timely manner. Yes, it is hard to find the willpower every evening to stay up another 4-5 hours to get the cookies out. Is it worth it? Also, yes.

Little Emma’s Cakery – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an in-home bakery. I specialize in decorated sugar cookies. I am known for my passion, my creativity, my design, and my attention to detail. Not to mention, my cookies taste as good as they look!

I am most proud of how far I’ve come. I have stayed consistent with my customers. I bake for customers who have ordered from me for ten years. Plus, I have new customers coming in with orders all the time! I listen to my customers and their wants, and I do my best to make their celebration a little extra special! I literally love making my customers happy. I am a people pleaser, so naturally, making people happy is my jam.

What sets me apart is my ability to deliver exceptionally detailed customized cookies at a competitive price. Let’s face it, anything customizable…is expensive. Not everyone can afford these things. With my people pleasing personality, my goal is to remain very competitively priced, so all people can afford my cookies. Throwing birthday parties and celebrating my children is one of my favorite things to do. I love putting in all the extra details to make the celebration special. This is why I strive to remain competitively priced so that my customers can do the same for their celebrations, as well.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think that being successful is determined by your attitude and your persistence to get things done, even if none of it comes easy. Success is not giving up. Success is going the extra mile. Success is knowing what is important to focus on and then staying on task. Success is breaking new records and pushing yourself for more. Success is thinking outside of the box. Success is focusing on the needs of others before yours.

As the owner of this business, I work on all sides: finances, scheduling, social media management, baker, decorator, etc. Little Emma’s Cakery exemplifies everything listed above, and that’s why I remain successful.
