Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Haque.
Eric, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Wealth Tip was a business long time coming but finally came to fruition December 2018′, I had been laid off for the second time in my career in October 2018′, and this is where I had my epiphany moment. Unlike the first time, being laid off didn’t leave me angry at the company. This time I blamed myself, I self-reflected and came to terms that I had lost grip of my relationships, happiness, and quality of life.
Working in the finance industry for eight years has left me with a lot of experience advocating for individuals and companies to get their finances in order. I have been known as the “finance pal” among my friends and family. If there was financial advice you were seeking without the hefty price tag, I was the guy to call. And I enjoyed it. It was humbling and motivating to be that source to my loved ones but I made one major mistake. I never stopped to check on my own financial situation.
In Oct 2018 being newly unemployed, I was accrued over $21,000 in debt. Instead of panicking and falling into a depression, I decided to tackle the debt head on. With the free time I never had in my career, I began reading personal finance and self-help books. I attended numerous workshops and seminars about investing, saving, budgeting, and building wealth. Along the two months of doing this, I had a major observation.
There wasn’t a platform for millennials and minorities. Everywhere I looked it was a middle-aged white man. I didn’t identify myself in any other their stories. It didn’t motivate me and I quickly understood this is an issue that needs to be resolved.
Millennials are the most educated generation yet the most underpaid. The wealth inequality gap between minorities and whites have sky rocketed since the “Great Recession”. There’s often a negative narrative pushed of millennials to be entitled, lazy, and unconcerned. All of this brought fuel and birth to The Wealth Tip, our mission is to empower millennials to take charge of their finances, eliminate debt, invest in themselves, and acquire wealth.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Understandably this has not been a smooth road. Just eight months in I have run into one of the most common issues of many entrepreneurial efforts which is the lack of support and finances.
Lacking a team while working to keep the lights on can be both intimidating and daunting. The speed that I am trying to move my business and the reach I am trying to have is difficult when you are a small army.
We live in a time where society won’t take your message/mission seriously if you do not have a large following in social media, or a larger backing financially. The gorilla style, grassroots approach, can be tiring to maintain when your business is battling corporate backing.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Wealth Tip – what should we know?
The Wealth Tip is a financial education platform that empowers millennials and minorities to take charge of their finances. We provide coaching / mentoring, courses, and a down to earth approach to personal finance, debt elimination, investing, saving, and building wealth.
What sets us apart is we look like YOU and we’re proud of that. We advocate individuals to understand that acquiring wealth is not for a selected few but for all of us. We are no longer waiting for the school systems to be updated to teach us life lessons, we’re self-educating, we’re advocating, we’re spreading knowledge. Our mission is to inspire people to understand that the greatest asset of their lives will be themselves. Invest in yourself!
Unlike other financial brokerages, colleges, and organizations, we don’t turn down anyone due to their GPA score, background, and bank account balance.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important qualities I possess is my determination and confidence. It’s the backbone to my company. It’s what keeps me pushing and motivated to grow.
My confidence does not take a no, and in a society that is constantly telling you no, it’s important to have an ounce of yes.
