Meet Eric Salazar of Flex Level Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Salazar.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Eric. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I as of now have been a personal trainer for 13yrs. It was pretty simple to become a trainer then as it still is today. I found early in my career that trainers would suffer in trying to make a living out of being a PT. In late 2008 I sought out a bodybuilding coach, as well as a mentor, by the name of Layne Norton Ph.D. Accompanied by his mentor Dr. Joe Klemczewski and associate Sean Mccauley, they taught me the science and physiology of weight loss and muscle gain. At that moment I became ‘hooked’ in the ultimate quest for years to have successful weight management for my clients. I decided I would  travel to any distance on the globe for special training in the art of client adherence and client success rates with the absolute top doctors, scientists, food psychologists, trainers, and fitness competitors in the world.

In 2011, with the new knowledge I had acquired, I felt a sense of disservice by the average trainer for clients seeking honest help in a world full of extreme quick weight loss programs setting you up to fail and supplements that have claims that research does not back up. I had a vision of creating a Gym with highly certified and accredited trainers who could be on the same page. I took a leap of faith and trusted my abilities to open up a small studio in Pasadena. After a year I moved to a Business park for personal training, where I officially opened Flex Level Fitness. In a year, I doubled my gym size once more, and met Luke Johnson of the SBS Academy. SBS is a 1 year PT Certification for trainers. We partnered up and built the 4th phase to my gym, which came in the form of an 8,000 sq ft gym space equipped with a Trainer Only Room, Main gym floor, and Cardio area.

Every trainer at my gym is SBS certified in an effort to add quality to our clients. I have met amazing teachers, mentors, and students and am considered a top professional in the fitness industry. I am currently attending school for a Bachelors in Dietetics, and am always progressing in new methods in Client Weight Management. We are currently working on phase 5 of my journey, and working to open an even bigger gym to not only help more clients but to provide jobs for our future trainers.

Has it been a smooth road?
When I decided to create my own business, doubt was the only real struggle.  I didn’t have much doubt, and I never had any financial help from parents or friends. I built my entire gym one piece of equipment at a time. I was taught to never borrow, so yes my entire gym is paid for business 101. You see, I grew up with a different type of perspective if I may elaborate. I grew up a troubled youth in that I was always in fights, required school conceling, kicked out school, or put in jail, and failed classes by the age of 17. I moved out of my parents house when I was 19. I was written off at an early age as most of my closest friends were at the time.

I decided early in my 20’s that this was not the route I wanted to go. This uprising brought upon a humbleness, I have a huge heart for helping the underdog. They may also feel written off, but there is always hope. Its never to late to go back to school or start a new. I don’t just stop there where I relate but I also take a lot of pride in helping College students in financial sponsoring. College students in the Strength and Nutrition program have so much on their plate with studying, jobs, kids, and the money it cost them. We also do charity work for special needs kids, hospitals,  and as well as special needs students. Giving back to others and mentoring the new trainers while succsfully giving them the tools for success is our mission statement.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a Competitive Pro Natural Bodybuilder as well as Competition Prep Coach. I specialize in weight loss management and adherence. The world does not have a problem losing weight as you may think. The true problem it’s keeping it off.  We do not provide simple meal plans with little to no options. We are a teaching facility that want you to learn how to lose weight/gain muscle and be able to be independent. If you are in Texas, come in for my Free Nutrition&Fitness Lectures which I host at my gym every other week.  I travel to major corporations, hospitals, schools, and gyms to teach the same lecture. Having an entire gym with the same accredited certification and continuing education clinics by far sets us apart from other gyms as I do not consider Flex Level Fitness just a gym. We are a Certification School, Trainers Facility, and Open Gym.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?

Eric’s gym is one of the nicest gyms I have been to in Houston. Not only is it filled with good quality equipment, but good quality people as well. Flex Level fitness isn’t just a gym, but a family.
