So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At five years old I remember watching my mother put on her makeup. The contents of her makeup bag cultivated in me an innate sense of curiosity. The various colors and textures were so fascinating. One day I attempted to walk out of the house wearing her Lancôme lipstick but was caught “mauve-handed”.
The night before my first day of sixth grade, my mom took me to the local drug store and bought me my first makeup kit. Cover Girl translucent pressed powder, a light mauve Revlon lipliner, clear gloss & clear mascara. Best day ever. Although I loved playing with my new products, I enjoyed seeing the transformation in others (especially my little sisters) more.
I think every entrepreneur has had an “a-ha!” moment — a moment when an idea crystallizes and everything makes sense. For me, it was a chilly, December evening. It was the end of an awful week so I gave myself a pep talk and decided that the following day would be the day I pursue my dream full time.
Today I’m fortunate enough to be doing just that. With support and encouragement from my husband, I founded Hey Lovely and have been following my dream ever since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Navigating a career is never easy. Finding the courage to branch out and follow my dream was a gutsy move, and being an entrepreneur is an experience unlike any other. You need a ridiculous amount of passion. You have to be able to adapt to crazy, unexpected things. Thankfully I have a wonderful support system in my husband, family as well as God’s favor and never-ending grace.
Please tell us about Hey Lovely. Hey Lovely is a mobile-beauty business specializing in hairstyling and makeup. It was created out of a desire to provide a custom, boutique quality beauty experience to each of our clients. Our team of seasoned pros are carefully selected for their talents, professionalism and friendliness. The majority of our work is wedding related, but we also provide services for commercial/editorial projects regularly.
We believe in a ‘less-is-more’ approach over making you look like a different person and aim to highlight your best features. It’s our passion to provide services tailored to your needs with an emphasis on detail, expert execution, responsiveness, quality of product and accommodation. We maintain a fresh, timeless, consistent style and overall aesthetic that resonates with many of our clients, especially brides. It’s an honor and a privilege to be part of a client’s wedding day and I’m proud of the reputation we have for being punctual, joyful and dedicated to making real people feel their loveliest.
We travel both domestically and internationally. In the last few years, we have taken our beauty kits to New York, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Paris, Spain and all over our great state of Texas.
