Today we’d like to introduce you to Erick Hernandez.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Photography was always seemed interesting to me growing up. I used to take my parents old film camera as a kid and go around photographing every I could. It wasn’t until high school when I joined photography class when my journey started.
Please tell us about your art.
My art involves capturing the passion people have for music. It’s inspiring to see all the hard work, sweat and tears musicians put into their songs, and the way the crowd sings along to those songs is the best feeling in the world. Music plays a huge factor in our lives, from moments when we’re happy, sad, etc. There is a song for every occasion. That’s what I want people to take from my artwork, that there is more to those pretty lights in my work There is a burning passion someone works 24/7 to perfect and share to the world.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
A piece of advice I wished someone had told me when I was starting is to start small. What I mean by this is to not rush into things, yes you may want to shoot the biggest band in the world but without a portfolio you’re not going to have the slightest chance to do so. Start small, go to local shows, meet people, get yourself know in your area first. It takes time and you may not be shooting the biggest bands but it’s important to sharpen your skills first. Take every opportunity you can to go out there and perfect your craft, plus it’s always fun to meet other photographers with the same passion and dreams you have.
