Today we’d like to introduce you to Ernest Jackson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Born in Texas. Grew up in rural upstate New York, which I believe was the reason for my love for the outdoors, and landscape photography. Started taking photography seriously during my years in Virginia in the late 1980’s. I have photographed twenty-four of our nation’s fifty-nine National Parks, and hundreds of state parks, national rivers, and monuments. I have also had the opportunity to travel to and photograph Greece, Spain, Portugal, Hawaii, Turkey, and Costa Rica.
Please tell us about your art.
I photograph the natural landscape. Waterfalls, mountains, rivers, national parks, flowers, lighthouses, lakes, and sunsets. It is my hope that people who view my work come away with the feeling that they were there, “Looking over my shoulder” when I took each photograph. My artwork and my photography are a tribute to the splendor of rural America and the scenic wonders this land offers us all.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
The world over my lifetime has become a much more dangerous place. This has created an atmosphere of tension and stress for people. My role as a photographer I believe is to offer hope, inspiration, and a sense of calm and beauty in a much too fast-paced world.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work on my website. My work is also on display as a member of Davinci Artists Gallery at 311 Main Street in Tomball, Texas.
