Today we’d like to introduce you to Esperanza Garcia.
Esperanza, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Tiny Giraffe Design when I was still working full-time. I felt like I needed a creative outlet for my graphic design that was outside of the corporate world. A lot of my freelance work was for invitation designs, which I love because I get to help create something for somebody’s wedding, birthday, graduation or baby shower. I love talking to clients to see what they have in mind for their special day and coming through for them. I especially get a kick out of being put up to the challenge when it comes to different formats other than a 5″x7″. I quit my full-time job after I had my first daughter and took a break from designing because honestly being a new mother kicked my butt. After I got into a good groove, I started taking in requests for design work and started a project called “The ABCs of The Office” since I love the show and needed to get the creative juices flowing. Now, I have another daughter who will be four months soon and I still design and actually miss the corporate design projects.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m constantly trying to think of new ways to promote my freelance graphic design business but get caught up taking care of my girls, working on projects and taking care of my home that I often don’t have a lot of opportunity to promote.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tiny Giraffe Design story. Tell us more about the business.
Tiny Giraffe Design is a freelance graphic design venture that helps individuals and businesses find a voice in the print and digital medium. Whether it’s an invitation, logo, flyer, banner, custom illustration – I am here to deliver great designs and services. Even though I have two little ones, Tiny Giraffe Design is “me” time. This is one of my passions and I love that I have this creative outlet.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think that I am lucky to have clients who tell their friends and family about me, who then come later with their own project.
