Today we’d like to introduce you to Estrella ‘Star’ and Jose Castellanos.
Star Cleaning Services is a family company started in 2014. Their family moved to The Woodlands area from Guatemala in 2004, and since Estrella and Jose have always been entrepreneurs, they were looking to start a business in the service industry in Texas.
The idea of starting a cleaning company came in when Fabian Castellanos alongside his father Jose, who had experienced in the several sectors of the service industry, decided to look for an enterprise which did not need much-starting capital. A cleaning company was the right choice since the investment needed was minimum as well as it allowed them to keep their day jobs while growing up the business.
In 2016 Fabian moved out of the Houston area to continue his education at North Texas University in the Dallas area. Therefore, Jose continues with the business alongside his wife Estrella (which the company is named after to – Estrella (Spanish) = Star).
Jose and Estrella, who worked for over 10 years for a local school district (Conroe ISD) as a bus driver and teacher aid, respectively, took over the company and been working in it since then. Nowadays, the company has 6 team members who work in The Woodlands area and surroundings offering residential and commercial cleaning services at all levels.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It had not been a smooth road. As all new start-ups, the business faced many struggles along the way.
The lack of capital to invest, being one of them, was the more difficult to overpass. However, since the business started as a side job, the monetary factor to grow was not as important as it is for other enterprises which need capital not only to survive but also to generate income as soon as possible for its owners.
In addition, as a new company in any industry, the difficulty in getting accounts to generate cash flow was another challenge. Also, identifying what customers are looking for is another challenge a new business has.

In Star Cleaning Services we offer residential and commercial janitorial services for The Woodlands and surrounding areas. In addition to the regular cleaning necessities our customers have, we also offer special services such as rug and carpet cleaning, pressure washing, window cleaning, among others.
Our philosophy is that if you need anything to get cleaned, we can help you do a ‘bright cleaning for a right feeling’.
The key point that sets us apart from others is that we take pride of being part of our community. We love Houston in general, but The Woodlands is a special place where we work, and live.
