Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezenwanyi Abii.
Ezenwanyi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Mine would be a story of consistent transitions. I moved from Nigeria in my teens and completed high school in Houston. I went on to college and graduate school at the University of Houston and immediately left upon graduation because I was ready for something new. I moved to the east coast and then out of the country and eventually found my way and settled in DC. I went to Law School in Houston but didn’t enjoy the idea of the work itself at that time. I knew I didn’t want a traditional legal path but needed time to clarify what “nontraditional” looked like.
Fast forward years later, I took a job and returned to Houston after a few years away. While working, I realized that I may have come upon what the non-traditional lifestyle I sought looked like. I wanted a sense of autonomy, flexibility and my passion to work with people. Upon my return to Houston, I had witnessed the changes in real estate and new development and developed a joy and passion for real estate.
In an effort to try to live my version of life and get the experiences I want, I took a leap to set up a law practice and catered to entrepreneurs and smaller scale businesses. I am the principal at a boutique law firm that provides legal services in Estate planning, Business planning and Real Estate, and I also provide real estate services.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not!
The process of building anything comes with 2 categories of challenges, in my opinion. The internal and external struggle. Internally, I have gone from questioning my vision, the intent and then defining what exactly this would look like. Externally, you begin to consider how the world will receive what you have to offer and how this reception changes your story. Some challenges that we all face, especially post college or graduate school are loans and those can be limiting and can become a deterrence to the plans and dreams that you have but ultimately with good planning, all those get conquered. The key is to set the path and keep moving.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Abii Legal – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Abii & Associates, PLLC is focused on providing services with heart and strategy. I believe in the idea of partnership and enhancement, I want the services I provide and advice I give to impact and improve the people I am working for. A relational focused approach and not simply transaction focused. I find the human engagement very fulfilling. Also, because I will be working for myself I get to determine how I can execute on my vision. A little daunting but thoroughly exciting.
I am most proud of the fact that I started developing my business while maintaining a job. The preparation for my transitional phase has taken some time, balancing our marriage, two kids, a full time job while taking the little steps to create a business and vision of my own has been draining at times and incredibly exhilarating at other times too. I took the leap to bring my vision to reality, this is truly what sets me apart, focus, drive, tenacity, perseverance, and commitment to follow through and I serve my clients needs with the same enthusiasm.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that there are so many hidden gems in Houston, awesome restaurants, neighborhoods, music venues, art, theater, boutiques. Whatever it is that you are interested in, most likely you will find it somewhere.
My least favorite thing remains the large of reliable, consistent and expansive public transportation.
