Today we’d like to introduce you to Fallon Evans.
Hi Fallon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Cold Start Construction began with a simple but powerful desire for freedom and independence. Fallon, a 25-year-old veteran, was working as a heavy equipment mechanic for a mining company when he realized he was ready for something more. He had always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to take his future into his own hands instead of working for a large corporation.
With that drive, he invested his own savings into purchasing his first piece of equipment — a skid steer track loader — and started taking on jobs himself. What began as a one-machine operation quickly grew through hard work, reputation, and a commitment to doing quality work for every customer.
Today, Cold Start Construction handles a wide range of dirt work and land-clearing projects, and we’ve built a business that reflects the values Fallon started with: independence, integrity, and hands-on expertise
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been smoother than many might expect. One of our biggest advantages is Fallon’s background as an experienced mechanic — he can repair and maintain our own machines, which saves both time and money. That has made a huge difference in keeping things moving when challenges pop up.
That said, like any new business, there were stretches where work slowed down. Building a reputation and proving ourselves in a competitive industry takes time. Early on, we had to stay patient and trust the process. Over the last six months, though, the work we’ve put into SEO, building a social media presence, and consistent networking has started to pay off. We’ve seen a noticeable jump in inquiries and projects, which makes us really excited for what’s ahead.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Cold Start Construction is a veteran-owned business built on hard work, integrity, and follow-through. We specialize in dirt work, land clearing, excavation, and site preparation — the essential groundwork that makes every project possible. From residential lots to larger outdoor builds, we’re known for delivering quality results and standing by our word.
What sets us apart is the mindset we bring to the job. As a veteran-owned company, discipline and accountability are at the heart of how we operate. We believe in doing things correctly the first time, being honest with our clients, and putting in the effort to make sure every project is completed to their satisfaction.
Brand-wise, we’re proud of the reputation we’re building: a company that customers can trust to show up, work hard, and follow through. We’re hungry for this line of work, and even hungrier to succeed. For us, every project is not just a job — it’s a chance to prove that commitment, skill, and integrity still matter in this industry.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
From the very beginning, Cold Start Construction was built on risk. When Fallon decided to purchase that first skid steer, it was a huge investment — a leap of faith into an industry he was determined to make his own. It wasn’t just buying a piece of equipment, it was betting on himself, his sense of responsibility, and his work ethic.
The truth is, this line of work has been a tightrope walk since day one. Starting a business from scratch, especially in construction, comes with a lot of unknowns. But Fallon’s ambition and belief in himself have never wavered. That mix of drive and discipline has carried us through every challenge.
We see risk not as something to avoid, but as something that sharpens you. It’s scary, exciting, and rewarding all at once. Every risk we’ve taken so far has pushed us to grow and reinforced our confidence that we’re on the right path.
Pricing:
- We offer free, no-obligation walkthroughs for every project so we can scope the area properly before providing a quote.
- Pricing varies depending on job type, access, equipment needs, and site conditions — photos or phone descriptions often don’t capture the full picture.
- Dirt work and land clearing are on the pricier end of services, which surprises many homeowners. The investment reflects the heavy equipment, fuel, and labor required to do it correctly
- While some newer companies may offer bargain pricing, we believe in fair, honest pricing that delivers lasting quality. Cutting corners often means poor results — or paying twice.
