Meet Faozy Aminu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faozy Aminu.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Faozy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was a young girl, my parents always made a joke about how I was going to end up being a newscaster for BBC. According to them, I was always making friends, I was very sociable but most importantly, I was always talking. Although I had always been a social butterfly, I really never recognized my calling. You know when they say people see it in you before you see it in you? I think that’s how it happened to me.

Let’s fast forward to 2012. I was going to the University of Houston serving on the executive board of the Nigerian Students’ Association (NSA). Wizkid was on tour for his album release. The tour organizers reached out to NSA to interview him and I just happened to be at the interview location and they were looking for an extra person to conduct the interview. Everybody that was there kept suggesting me and I finally agreed. It was literally that moment that defined the rest of my life till date.

As soon as I was done with the interview, I got offered an internship by a media house that was there. During my time working with that company, I got the chance to learn the ropes of the industry. I was able to land a few more celebrities interviews, learn how to do things behind the scenes and then boom! I got offered a slot on a radio station.

I’ll never forget that day. I was sitting in the library, studying for God knows what and I get a call from my friend. He goes, “Faozy. would you want to host your own radio show?” I was like, “Of course, what type of question is that?” He gives me the details and in no time, I was hosting “Roundtable with Faozy”.

The company I was working with eventually stopped functioning, but I continued to do my thing on my own platform. In 2015, a production company reached out to me asking if I wanted to televise the show. I’m sure from what you’ve read so far, I’m not one to turn down an amazing opportunity. We did that for a while and that was great for me, it was my first actual production – I learned so much from it and got VERY comfortable in front of the camera.

I began hosting red carpets, events, and so much more. I even got a chance to host an event that the Mayor of Houston was present at. That’s definitely a highlight in my career. Being a creative entrepreneur, I’ve had to learn so much, from editing videos to making flyers to coordinating events to managing social media, you name it. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth road? I wish! A lot of people compliment my make-up skills now and I can’t help but laugh in my head because I’ve gone through so much with make-up artists that I just had to teach myself had to do it right.

I’ve had makeup artists cancel on me 2 hours before our appointment. I’ve had videographers hold my content (this has to be the most frustrating challenge). Looking for sets has been a challenge. Securing the right collaborations can be a struggle sometimes. I’ve had my producer ghost me in the middle of our project. I’ve had people that I thought were rooting for me betray me. I’ve had a lot of struggles, I’m not even going to lie but one thing’s for sure, I keep overcoming.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Multimedia Personality – I do media, I’m the Queen of Talk. I’m also a Communication Strategist and Branding Expert so it’s safe to say I am an all-round Creative Entrepreneur.

I host events, I host the red carpet, I do comedy, I blog, heck, I even design websites – check out www.faozyaminu.com (shameless plug, haha) and so much more.

The thing that I am most proud of is my fearlessness. Fearlessness when it comes to learning new things, fearlessness when it comes to going after what I want and deserve.

The thing that sets me apart from others is not just my talent, but my person. By that, I mean the person I am on the inside. Many people can have the talent but are they pleasant people? I meet people in the line of work I do and I don’t get vibes of authenticity. I am not that person, I am kind. That’s what sets me apart.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First of all, shout out to my parents, they don’t always understand the vision but they always support it. My sister, she literally hypes everything I do, and supports all my visions, love it. My friends are amazing, they motivate me when I’m not doing what I should do and I love them so much for it.

So many people have provided opportunities for me and supported me along the way, sometimes, it shocks me. Leslie Christina, thank you for taking me under your wings. 1Tribe Radio, thank you for giving me a platform. CocoBox TV for helping me put my dream on people’s screens. Bukola Are, for serving as a big sister and mentor. Shekpe Knights for providing opportunities that time. Bethany Oyefeso for letting me use your house as a set (and so much more). My creative geniuses that listen to me brainstorm my ideas over and over again and help me fine-tune it. My friends for always supporting me and pushing me and sending opportunities. Everybody who says my name in rooms I’m not in for opportunities that are beneficial to me. I have a strong support system. I’m literally just thankful.
