Meet Fatimah Khan of Henna Wonders in Pearland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatimah Khan.

Fatimah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was first inspired to practice henna by my cousin at the age of 7. I observed her drawings of traditional henna flowers. I began doodling henna art anywhere and everywhere: in my notebooks, on my teacher’s white board, and even on my friends’ hands. My sister’s school was having a Spring carnival and a light bulb went off, I contacted the school administration to see if I can setup a henna booth on a volunteer basis. They thought it was an amazing idea. For 6 hours, I was able to interact with many people of all ages. The excitement and fun I had that day, drove me to start my business with my cousins in Canada. Together, we came up with the name “Henna Wonders” and worked our way up to provide people with a gift filled with wonders.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting “Henna Wonders” was not an easy road. Of course, my friends and family are always very supportive towards me. My mom, in particular. helped me spread the word to our community. I received many opportunities to do henna at events and parties. However, it was a struggle to make wonderful business cards, various social media pages, an amazing website, and mostly proper advertisement. Thankfully, I had many supporters to help me and I managed to successfully get everything done. I then realized that my business is just like any other henna business. I wanted to do something special – something my business can be known for. I racked my brain and came up with the idea of making henna boxes. Using my own craftsmanship, I designed my own ideas of henna on to colorful trinkets. They were great for holidays and birthday gifts and everyone loved them. I am sure my journey to make Henna Wonders a successful business will not be easy. Yet, I am dedicated and devoted to make it the best I can.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business, Henna Wonders, gave me the opportunity to spread my talent of doing henna. I specialize in all types of henna designs, whether it be my own or from a wanted design by the client. I’m experienced in doing bridal henna, individual appointments, carnivals, birthday parties, and private events. I provide FREE glitter for little kids so they can add little sparkle to their henna. My business is also different than other business because we sell hand crafted henna boxes and trinkets. I personally paint the boxes, create a henna design on them with jewels, and seal it. The most satisfying feeling I get with my business is knowing that I started with nothing and managed to bring it up. I am very proud of myself for achieving a great business.

What were you like growing up?
When I was young, I always liked drawing, especially with nature. I took a liking to all types of art: painting, sculpting, and especially henna. My childhood interests impacted me for who I am today and how I was influenced into starting my business.
