Today we’d like to introduce you to Forrest Heintz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Forrest. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I used to always work on buddies vehicles on the weekends whether it was doing lift kits, lowering kits, or just repairs. In 2003, I decided to start my own little business selling performance parts, lift kits, tires/wheels online and continued doing installs on the weekends while working my regular job until I couldn’t keep up with demand over the next few years. In 2007, I was approached by a friend who I had done a lot of paint and bodywork with when I was building my first show truck and given the opportunity to purchase one of his businesses, Mr. Bedliner. Over the next five years, business did really well, but we felt we needed to change the business name to something more appealing and decided to go with Cypress Truckworks LLC. In 2017, we were lucky enough to be able to move locations out of a 30 years old shop and into a brand new 5,000 sq foot shop where we could be even more productive and have the bedliner side of the business separate from the mechanical side, and it was a much better location with road frontage.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road to success definitely wasn’t a smooth one. At first, I was faced with the challenges of trying to work a regular job and monitor my online sales which wasn’t easy. I’m 2013, I was faced with life-changing events when my 14 months old son at the time was diagnosed with brain tumors and had three brain surgeries within the year, making business ownership even harder to deal with all while trying to make at home life as normal as possible for our oldest child. Luckily my wife, Amanda Heintz was able to handle almost all of the Dr. visits downtown so I could manage to keep the doors open at the shop. Once I made it through that year, I often refer to as “hell”, I was lucky enough to get my business back up on the tracks and start moving forward again. Without the help of my amazing wife, I definitely would have been forced to shut the doors and go back to work for someone else. She has made it possible for me to work long hours and late nights to meet or beat deadlines so my customers stay happy.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cypress Truckworks LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
At Cypress Truckworks we specialize in lift kits and performance accessories on all jeeps and trucks, wheels/tires, custom fabrication, and also do spray in bedliner in house whether it’s your truck bed or complete vehicle. I’d say what sets us apart from the other shops is we treat every customer how we would expect to be treated, and their vehicles how we would treat ours!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
It’s hard to say where we see the industry going since it’s constantly changing every week. We do our best to stay ahead of the others, but we don’t really focus on the trends. We focus on what we are really good at and strive every day to get even better so we know every job was done the best possible way. Our motto is “when you think you’re the best remember someone is always out the trying to become better than you”.
