Meet Annette and Edward Smith of GAAP Grant Writing Training in Dallas/DFW Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annette and Edward Smith.

Edward and Annette Smith are the Founders of GAAP Grant Writing Training for Non-profit Orgs & Churches. We have been in business since 2006. We started conducting Grant Writing Training Workshops via our efforts as Professional Grant Writers to assist Non-profit Orgs. in applying for Grant funding to carry out their mission or vision. We discovered that a lot of Non-Profit Orgs. lacked the financial resources to hire a professional Grant Writer. We decided to teach others the art of Grant Writing. We wanted to educate, equip and empower them to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to write grants. We started conducting Grant Writing Training Workshops which consisted of utilizing Grant Writing templates, which we created along with other helpful documents to assist non-profit orgs. with drafting grants. Our workshops also include sessions on grant seeking, forming a 501c3 tax-exempt org. to qualify for Grants and writing a business plan.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest challenge has been and still remains, is convincing people why it is advantageous for them to learn the art of Grant Writing to assist them with obtaining funding for their organizational needs, as well as getting well-attended classes/audiences at the workshops to assist us to financially conduct the workshops.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
GAAP is a faith-based organization that conducts Grant Writing Training Workshops and Seminars for Non-Profit Organizations and Churches. The workshops are held on Saturdays when most people are available to attend. Its hours are from 8 am to 5 pm. We have four sessions which are Grant Writing, Grant Seeking, an overview on how to obtain your 501c3 I.R.S. tax-exempt status and an overview on how to write a business plan. Edward and Annette Smith areas of expertise is the Grant Writing and Grant Seeking Process. We invite past participants as testimonials, who have exemplified success in utilizing GAAP’s training material to obtain grant funding. The cost of the workshops starts at $99. The cost includes all the training material of each presenter and a lite breakfast and lunch.

We are most proud of the fact that we have been 99% successful in training hundreds of individuals throughout Texas over a 13 year period. We feel we are giving people a sense of “HOPE”, as well as providing them with the necessary tools to assist them in obtaining funds to carrying out the mission of their organization more effectively. What makes us unique from other Grant Writing Training Businesses is that we combine “three-courses-in-one”, which makes it cost-efficient for people to attend, as well as giving them an opportunity to gain additional knowledge of other topics that are necessary to qualify for Grants. We also provide hands-on exercises to assist the participant in getting started in drafting a Grant Proposal at the workshop.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We strongly believe in our mission and motto and we carry it out to the best of our ability with a spirit of excellence. We are the epitome of the words “ENDURANCE”, “PERSEVERANCE” AND “FAITH-WALK”. Our motto is to “Give a Man a Fish and He will Eat for a day, Teach a Man to Fish and He will Eat for a Lifetime”! When others can see your positive “Can-Do” actions and attitude towards succeeding, it encourages them to want the same or more for themselves.
