Meet Gabriela Padilla of Beauty and the Brunch – With a Texas Twist in Houston Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Padilla.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always liked speaking to people about bargains or new places to visit. A friend would text or call me asking for a recommendation on where to eat or a coworker would ask where I found my outfits from. This planted the seed of wanting to spread what I knew to more people. I had spoken to my family and close friends about starting a blog or being an entrepreneur for the last few years. It wasn’t until recently that my best friend really gave me that last push I needed to start and before I knew it the blog was up and running. It is still in the early stages of where I see it potentially going but I have already met some great people and I am looking forward to meeting many more.

Growing up my family did the best they could with their income, but it did limit us with how much we could see and do at the weekends and vacations. However, I learned to enjoy some things differently and find the best deals for those experiences. My main goal is to really help people travel to where they want to travel, eat at the restaurant they want to eat at, and buy that clothing item they have been wanting all while not breaking the bank. If I can help just a handful of people do that, then I feel like my blog/brand has done something worthwhile.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am a firm believer that any road that doesn’t show obstacles is not worth your time. I have had minor hiccups to starting the blog and am currently looking for more innovative ways to reach people and create content for the everyday person. I really struggle sometimes that I can’t reach more people, but I know in time that will come. There is a slight issue with my confidence level and how people will receive my message. I continue to work on that in order to push the blog forward and establish my brand. I think what I always want to do is stay true to not only myself but those around me as well.

Please tell us about Beauty and the Brunch – With a Texas Twist.
Beauty and the Brunch – With a Texas Twist was started to help people be able to experience life and our city on a “budget” as well as to get people involved with our community and/or local businesses/artists. I am most proud of the blog when I can help someone with a new experience or collaborate with businesses. Bringing awareness to the consumer and the business really brings me joy. For example, I was able to get professional advice from Jaci Munro of J.Hues Salon (in The Woodlands) on a recent blog post I wrote regarding my journey with stress alopecia and hair care which helped quite a few people. I really want to be set apart by keeping up with the everyday person and speak about our daily struggles, because I certainly have several of those.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have always been an outgoing/ speak my mind kind of person even when I was little. Making people laugh or feel important brought and still brings me so much joy. My Mom had me volunteering and giving back to the community for as long as I can remember. Being an entrepreneur has been a dream and ambition of from a young age. In high school I had babysitting and tutoring jobs to help me save enough money to purchase a livestock show animal, to be able to sell and raise funds for college. I have worked extremely hard for a lot of things I wanted because my parents taught me that nothing in life would be given to you for free. That has carried on with me into adulthood. Young, fun, and loving me is still very much alive, but just a little more tamed. Well, at least I think so.
