Meet Gene Barron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gene Barron.

Hi Gene, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been an artist basically all my life but found my calling in abstract contemporary work for about 20 years. Since then, I have won awards and established myself by having award-winning pieces exhibited in many shows including a solo show here in Houston. I have collectors ranging from local to international. I have been a resident of prestigious galleries such as the Atkinson gallery in Chicago, Texas Art Machine, and Gallery Skye. I’m currently a resident of the Ardest Gallery in the Woodlands. I work with a variety of styles so I work with interior designers on custom pieces. I am proud of what I have accomplished so far but plan to push my label further

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an independent artist always has its struggles but my experience has taught me a lot about sales and networking and engaging with your collectors and potential buyers. This is something I believe to be an essential part of getting your art out there. It can be a slow climb at times but my advice is to keep pushing forward.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As I said, I’m an abstract contemporary artist and the reason I have very passionate about this genre specifically is cause I believe that art is a way of triggering deep emotions of what it means to be fully human just like life, painting a series of small steps that build one another. Each move you make on the surface leads to the next so it’s very important to be fearless trust your heart and move fearlessly. Something that I believe goes hand and hand with the business aspect of art as well and living in general

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
First of all, I would like to encourage anybody who does anything creatively to remember that their story and their life is their biggest asset and currency. I would also like to invite all local artists to the first Baptist temple church in the heights where we started an artist community that shares ideas, process, collective shows etc. this group is called Artifex and was co-founded by Robyn Crowell, myself, and others.
