Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerda Bayless.
Gerda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I would get spray tans regularly because seriously, who doesn’t love tanned skin? I loved the way it would make me look and feel, in 2016 I bought a kit and mastered the art of airbrush tanning by spraying myself. It took me about a year to learn the science behind the solution, why people turn orange and how to properly spray tan.
I was spray tanning myself, family, and friends and it evolved into a business. I was a single mom so I thought this was a great way to make some extra money. I didn’t realize what a high demand there was for spray tans. Shortly after, I was able to leave the job I currently had and work my business full time, which was super exciting! I was able to do what I was most passionate about and make money! I was a bit terrified to launch my business to the public not so much out of failing but succeeding. I thought, what if this actually works? I will have to keep it going and I have never owned a business nor do I know anything about running a business, so I took a leap of faith and it worked!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge was to not let people get in my head who doubted me.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bombshell Mobile Airbrush Tanning story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in custom airbrush tanning. I spray tan athletes for fitness competitions, cheer competitions, high school dance teams, prom, homecoming, senior photos, bridal parties, and a clients who just want some color or even out their skin tone simply because it makes them feel and look better. It’s amazing what a spray tan can do for you, it’s like confidence applied directly to your skin. It’s pretty exciting to see the look on my client’s faces when they see themselves after a spray, especially those clients who have never had a tan before in their lives, considering some can’t even get a tan in the sun. It’s instant gratification, and who doesn’t just love that?! The beauty of a spray tan is that it’s very slimming and it can help hide those imperfections that we’re insecure of like cellulite, varicose veins, etc… I’m known for turning my clients into golden goddesses. A proud moment for me was last year, Dancing with the Stars hired me to spray tan the dancers when they toured through Houston, which was super exciting!

Without my amazing clients, my business would not be where it is now! I have pretty close relationships with many of my clients and have made some life long friendships through this journey as well! Credit is due to all my clients for entrusting me to give them bronze beautiful tans, which has shaped my business to where it is today.
