Today we’d like to introduce you to Giara Major
Hi Giara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am originally from Baton Rouge, LA, now residing in Houston, TX. Throughout my childhood I was active in cheer and dance. After college I decided to audition to become a professional dancer for the New Orleans Saints. This was such an amazing opportunity I was able to experience in life. Not only was I able to dance on a professional level in the NFL but I also was able to meet wonderful people who will forever be in my life. After dancing professionally, I decided to give back to the dance studio I grew up at becoming a dance teacher for about 8 years. I taught ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop to kids between the ages of 5-18. In 2023, I stepped out on faith and decided to move to Houston, TX. I must say this was the best decision I made in my life. Baton Rouge and New Orleans will also have my heart but Houston has become my home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Although moving to Houston was one of the best decisions in my life, it has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone also. Being a micro content creator/micro influencer on social media, I noticed I was putting out content I thought others would like to see vs what I wanted. I got to a point where I started putting out content ‘I’ wanted to share. I would say this was a struggle for me because I started to show a more vulnerable side of me which made me feel very exposed. With doing this I noticed brands started recognizing my page wanting to partner with me. By showing my authentic self, I realized a lot of people could relate with me and that I wasn’t alone.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Clinical Care Coordinator in Telemedicine. I work in the field of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. Mental Health tends to be something commonly overlooked and/or brushed to the side. I truly enjoy working in this field and bringing awareness to others on how important your mental health is. This is something I try my hardest to show on social media because taking care of yourself is so important. Life is so precious and we only get to live it once. I strive in creating a peaceful lifestyle for myself that way my future legacy can carry it on.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I have God to thank for all of my success. Without him, I would not have come this far in life. A few qualities I would say helped me along the way is confidence, determination, and just genuinely believing in myself. In life, I’ve learned you have to tune out the noise from others and listen to your own intuition. It’s ok to get advice from others but at the end of the day, you know yourself better than anyone else. I definitely had to learn to trust my gut in all aspects of life.
