Meet Gili Mor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gili Mor.

Gili, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts with my dad, he was a diamond cutter in Israel since he was a teenager. Back then in Israel, it was a well-respected job but today there are only dozens left in Israel. After my military service in the Israeli army, I had ventured out and traveled across the U.S when I got back to Israel I had worked in some random jobs until one of my family members introduced me to the diamond trade business. I had worked my way in the wholesale industry from Tel Aviv to Dallas and after that I had joined some of my friends in Houston and stayed. I had always wanted to create pieces of jewelry the will be closer to a wearable art.

My first piece of jewelry was a marquise cut diamond with an irregular halo in 14k white gold. Must of my clients I meet in my office but I also have some clients from other states that I work with through messages and photos. The process is pretty easy, they tell me which kind of center stone they want (Diamond, Sapphire, Emerald etc..) and unless I have it in stock, I source it from my connections that I have made throughout the years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There was a lot of struggle in the beginning, especially with getting my name out there. The competition in this business is big but the real artist have made their own line and have a consistency with their designs. I think marketing, in general, is one of the biggest challenges of today’s small businesses, everybody wants “organic” traffic to their website or storefront but it is becoming harder and harder to get that. Another struggle I had to overcome is finding a good bench jeweler to help me make my designs come to life, I think I went through 5 or 6 different ones until I found two that are professional and understanding of how a ring or a necklace should be.

Please tell us about Gili Mor Diamonds.
I have a small diamonds and jewelry company, I try to focus and specialize in my own designs, something I envision and make it from scratch. I think I a most known for my minimalist necklaces and my use of 14k yellow gold in almost all of my pieces. My pride in my company lies in the quality of my jewelry and in my customer service. I make sure every ring or necklace that leaves my office are in a perfect and immaculate condition (including the precious stones) I also am available for my clients to text me or call me almost every hour of the day, if they have any further questions or they just want to add an extension to their necklace I will be there to help. I think what sets me apart from others is my passion for colored stones and my knowledge and experience with the diamond business.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I would probably open my office a lot sooner, in the beginning, I used to work from home and sell online only and now I see that there are a lot of people (in Houston) that wants to come and look at my line of jewelry in person.
