Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Aguirre Adams.
Hi Gina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began in August of 2011 when I founded the Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce with a vision to create opportunities, connections, and a stronger voice for businesses across Brazoria County.
What started as a vision quickly became a labor of love. For the first eight years, I worked full time building the chamber without receiving a paycheck. I was recruiting members, forming our board and committees, collecting dues, and planning every event. It was truly built from the ground up with passion, resilience, and a deep belief in the mission.
Over time, through consistency and community support, we began to grow. What started as a small grassroots effort has now evolved into a county wide chamber supporting hundreds of businesses, and we have grown into a team of six dedicated staff members. Together, we have built strong partnerships, impactful programs, and a network that truly feels like familia.
The journey has not been easy. There have been challenges, sacrifices, and moments of uncertainty, but those experiences shaped us and strengthened our purpose.
Today, as President and CEO, I am incredibly proud of how far we have come. We have created a space where businesses feel seen, supported, and connected. While we have accomplished so much, we remain focused on continuing to grow, serve, and make a lasting impact in Brazoria County.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. In the beginning, there were people who told me we would not last even two weeks. There was a lot of opposition and doubt, and at times it felt like we had to prove ourselves over and over again.
But what many people did not understand was the real need behind what we were building. There were clear cultural and language barriers in our community, and many Hispanic business owners were not being reached or supported. They had the drive and the talent, but not always the access to resources, information, or networks that could help them grow.
That is what kept me going. I knew this chamber was not just an idea, it was a necessity. Even through the challenges, I stayed focused on the mission and kept moving forward.
Looking back, those struggles were part of the process. They built resilience, strengthened our purpose, and helped shape the strong, impactful organization we are today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is a community driven organization focused on helping businesses grow, connect, and thrive across all of Brazoria County. We serve all 24 incorporated cities, giving us a truly county wide reach.
What sets us apart is that we are the only chamber or organization in our area specifically focused on supporting the Spanish speaking business community. We bridge language and cultural gaps to ensure every business has access to opportunities, resources, and connections.
We are known for being hands on and relationship focused. We walk alongside our members through networking, marketing, education, and real business opportunities. Our chamber is not just about business, it is about building a strong, supportive familia.
What I am most proud of is that we have built a trusted brand that represents opportunity, inclusivity, and growth. We are here to serve and to make sure every business, no matter their background, has a place to belong and succeed.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is that you cannot grow an organization by yourself. In the beginning, you may wear all the hats, but real growth happens when you build a strong team that believes in the mission as much as you do.
One thing I wish I understood earlier is the importance of focusing on retention, not just recruitment. It is easy to get caught up in bringing in new members, but the real value comes from taking care of the ones you already have. When your members feel supported, seen, and valued, they naturally become your biggest advocates.
We now focus on creating great experiences and real results for our members because that leads to something even more powerful, their testimonials. When people share their success stories, it speaks louder than anything we could say.
Build relationships, stay consistent, and always lead with service. Growth will follow.
