Meet Giovanni Lewis of Adorn Vintage Rentals and Events in Westchase

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovanni Lewis.

Giovanni, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I became infatuated with everything Vintage while planning my son’s end of the year party for his school. I decided the theme would be a vintage picnic. Little did I know, that finding old things would be so difficult. I foraged every antique shop in Miami (where we were living at the time). The process was like a scavenger hunt, and once I found what I was looking for it was pure gratification. It was so fun! I started collecting pieces with little knowledge of what I was going to do with them. Until I came across an amazing vintage rental shop called “Unearthed Vintage” in Miami. It was that aha! moment that I realized I could have a business renting out, my then, “small” collection of vintage goods. 5 years of shopping, collecting great pieces and my husband wanting his garage back led me to open Adorn Vintage here in Houston. We have almost hit our 2 year anniversary and I am so excited for what’s in store for Adorn!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Since opening Adorn I have experienced many challenges but I have learned a lot as well. Every day I am learning something new and implementing new ideas and plans to help us get better and grow. Starting a new business is never easy. I have many items in our inventory that I wish I didn’t purchase. So we are always adding and revamping. If we receive several requests for an item that we don’t have, I begin to search for that item to possibly add it to our inventory, if it makes sense for Adorn. Our goal is to make clients happy. The obstacles of owning my own business have only made me a wiser business owner.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Adorn Vintage Rentals and Events story. Tell us more about the business.
Adorn Vintage is a boutique rental company that specializes in vintage and specialty rentals and event planning. We have a punctual, professional and courteous delivery team. Event planners who can offer professional advice to those planning their own wedding or event. And unlike most rental companies, Adorn Vintage also has an experienced team who can design and style your next event or wedding. What makes us so special is our inventory of one of a kind pieces. What clients love about Adorn is the tremendous savings they receive when planning an event with us as we have the inventory to accommodate their needs. Our team of event planners, designers and consultants are absolutely amazing!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t particularly believe in luck. I feel blessed and humbled to have a successful business where I can Adorn others with my love for antiques and event design.
