Today we’d like to introduce you to Gisele Oriot.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The French Farm was started about 20years ago, when I moved to Houston I wanted to find products for my cooking that I could never find. I started imported few cases of fancy oils, sea salts, Dijon mustards, housewares products, was going to chefs to introduce products and selling around Houston. Products were well received, I started to do local holidays markets, and trade shows… from importing few cases of products grew to full palettes, then full containers and we started selling nationally to the best gourmet and specialty food stores in the US.
We are a wholesale company but also sell online for individual at www.frenchfarm.com.
The company grew to a sole owner to 12 employees, we just expended this year and double the size of our warehouse on 23rd street. Our products are now in most of the fancy stores, cheese stores an online store around the US!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
FDA regulation was the most difficult parts, putting labels in compliance for the US markets, having to deal with small manufacturers.
Please tell us about The French Farm.
We are trying to find the most unique, tasty, high quality, beautiful packaging products. The type of products you want to use for high quality and creative cooking but also look good on your kitchen counter!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Going to my grandfather farm in the middle of nowhere in Beaujolais region of France, going mushrooms hunting, eating the seasonal food from the garden. I guess the memories of the old stone farm gave the idea of the name for French farm!
