Today we’d like to introduce you to Giselle Mascorro.
Hi Giselle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My whole life I have grown up around a camera. I can remember being as little as two years old and my parents always had a video camera in my face recording. Growing up I always thought I wanted to be in front of the camera because my parents were photographers so I tried out modeling and also did acting wish to this day I do still love but it still felt like something was missing. I had always thought about photography but I never got into it because I thought that I was taking an easy route by doing what my parents were doing but in reality, I was just holding myself back. In February 2022 I decided to go to Dallas and take a week-long photography course, when I came back I decided to go all in on my own business and put my own style to it.
A year later I can finally say I did what I said I was going to do. All the thoughts and ideas I had in my mind for my business “ShotByG” were actually brought into reality and that’s something that I will forever be proud of myself for. I realize that I genuinely love creating art and making other people happy through the process. I hope to continue to find my niche but right now I really love portraits/fashion photography and I also love editing and making video clips because not only did I get into photography I also am doing videography as well. So throughout this journey, I know that there’s always more to learn and grow from in this industry and I’m blessed to have so many people support and show me love. So come with me on this journey as I continue to wake up and do what I love every day!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Since I’ve been 18 I’ve been into businesses that had nothing to do with photography thinking that that was going to be my whole life. I struggle to find myself and figure out what I really wanted to do in life. I knew I had a purpose and I was meant to make others happy and smile but I just wasn’t sure how I would do that.
I’m blessed and happy that I never gave up on myself and I just kept going after I failed multiple times. Although I don’t like to say I fail because in everything that I’ve done, I’ve learned a lesson coming out for me and I have grown from it I believe it’s just how you look and view things.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a photographer/videographer in Houston. I specialize in portrait/fashion or editorial photography. And for my videography, I do events such as Quinceañeras and weddings. When it comes to photography I’m really just proud that I’ve started from the ground up, and made something that is mine. I feel like a lot of times in the past, I’ve worked for other people and gone so hard for a company that I don’t even own and to have my own business that’s something that I am really proud of.
When it comes to videography I love the editing part of it and have just seen the end result so I would say I am most proud of me editing a video just because it’s so tedious. And I think what sets me apart is my personality and how I interact with my clients I always make them feel comfortable happy and as I like to call myself… the hype queen!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I am blessed to have an amazing father that will literally sit and talk to me about photography and lighting for hours. But I understand that a lot of people don’t have those resources or a mentor so I would say and recommend to people to definitely surround themselves around people that are doing what they want to do and learn from those people.
Also, find out what networking events are happening in your area and go put yourself in uncomfortable situations in order for you to grow. Yes, you may not know anybody but all it takes is one person for you to meet for everything to change. I believe in being at the right place at the right time so you have to be clear with your vision and know what you want in order to achieve it.
