Today we’d like to introduce you to Giset King.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Giset. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My whole life I struggled with self- esteem and obesity issues. During my College years, I was diagnosed with depression and started to experience Bulimia and emotional eating. I lost some weight but there was never a mental change. After having kids my weight ballooned to 200lbs and I had massive fatty tissue around my organs and zero energy. I decided to start working out from home. I learned to eat healthily and to take time for myself and my health. I have always been a leader in school, work, and church. I started to feel a fire to help other women that struggled with self- esteem, emotional eating and obesity.
I found Giset King Fitness in 2015. I started to offered workouts in the community and leading social supports group for free to help women to be consistent with fitness and nutrition. In 2016, I started to realize the amount of stress that parents with kids in the Autism Spectrum experience and I started to promote and lead additional activities and program to support Autism moms. I love to connect with the community and how diverse is the population I serve.
Our tribe is the mom that wants to be healthy, love her self and be holistically fit (mind, body and spirit). I am from Puerto Rico so we also add our ” Latin Flavor” to the mix. Today, I am a Certified Fitness Instructor and the CEO of my own company helping others to get healthy with faith, food, and fitness.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I need to build a company while working full time as a teacher, taking care of my family and helping my daughter with Autism to overcome new challenges every day. I live in an area surrounded by gyms, so I needed to hustle and be consistent with my brand and my identity to shine through, and spread my message. I am healthy, I work out 6 days a week and I have completed marathons. However, I don’t look like your typical trainer, I have curves and sometimes people judge me before seeing what I am capable of.
I consider myself an advocate of health and preacher of self-love. A size does not decide if you are healthy or not. I remember a time I went to an audition for a workout class. All the trainers were super skinny and they looked down on me. During the audition, I went full throttle. By the end of the workout, the other trainers couldn’t keep up with me.
After the workout, their judgment was gone and they looked at me with respect. I take it one day at a time and stay focus on my goal and my calling.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Giset King Fitness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company Giset King Fitness is all about making fitness accessible to everybody. We have live workouts for the people that need face to face motivation and we also have at home workouts for the ones that have a crazy schedule and want to get active on their own time. We offer a variety of classes such as Turbo Kick, Core de Force, and Boot Camps. We help women to learn how to eat right and get active using small changes in a consistent manner. Our company also has a blog with a delicious recipe that will make you forget you are eating healthy.
When people feel deprived they quit, so I love to make a delicious recipe that even people that are not on a diet want to eat. We are a Bilingual Company so we offer our services in English and Spanish. I truly love to help people and I like to keep it real. When I have a good day, I share it, if I had a ” cheat meal” I share it. I think women can relate to me and how raw I am. They can connect with me because I promote progress, not perfection. I am very open about my struggles so People feel inspire to face their struggles and challenge themselves.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how eclectic our city is. Our city is full of colorful cultures and identity. I love how everybody has an identity of their own but at the same time bond over the things we love like food, running or the Texans. I have had classes where everybody was from a different country. How cool is that!
The thing I like the least about our city is the traffic. I love my suburban area where there is no traffic. However, it is typical with big cities like Houston to experience heavy traffic.
