Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Brown.
Grace, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started this business in 2018. I was a single mom with a newborn baby and I worked a corporate job spending sometimes 12 hours away from my child. I had experienced over seven years of cleaning houses and my goal was simply to clean enough houses to pay for a simple life and spend time with my baby. My business grew quickly and soon I had to hire someone else to help me out. Over the period of a year, I began to see this as an opportunity not only for me but for other mothers in similar situations. I grew my team of mothers and I was even able to take my son out of daycare and stay home and run my company. At Mom’s, our goal is to “clean your space as if our own children live there”.
My personal goal is to make sure everyone we help feels understood and taken care of. I’m living a life today that I really dreamt about and I’m grateful to the team of amazing women who work with me, my husband and my son who gave me the reason to build a business and a life I love. Life has changed a lot since I first started my company. I’ve changed a lot! My son is older, we spend our days together. I got married, to a long-time friend who has taken on being a father to my son Isaiah. He started a company during the time we have been married and it’s fun to watch him take off and to be married to a fellow entrepreneur. Best of all, we recently found out, we are expecting twins in December!
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business alone as a single mom was terrifying and isolating. It was scary to leave a “secure” job with benefits and sail out into the unknown. Many days I felt like no one could see me or that I was always going to be alone.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mom’s Cleaning Service story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is a cleaning service. We service about 150 homes and businesses per month. Our goal is “to clean your space as if our own children live there”. We are all about that sigh of relief when a client walks through their door at the end of a long day. What sets us apart is that we know each of our clients by name, we try to keep the same cleaner on each house each time, we provide jobs to mothers who may not thrive in traditional work. Because they are grateful for the opportunity, they take pride in their work and in forming relationships with each client. And, since we all have children of our own, we care about the products we use and whether they are animal and kid-friendly. We use minimal chemicals and everything is done in consideration of the people who occupy that space.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see this industry becoming much more automated and convenience-based. Everything is online now and at the touch of a finger. I hope to be a part of that modernization while keeping the old fashioned values I feel we are known for.
