Meet Grant Mitterlehner with MittGroup in Uptown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grant Mitterlehner.

Grant, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After playing college football in California and New York, I decided it was time to move back to my home city of Houston, Texas and go all out on my business career. Entrepreneurship and business have always been my passion and I couldn’t wait to go full steam ahead. While I was living in LA, I noticed how quickly the solar industry was rapidly growing. I knew for the next decade or so. Renewable energy would be one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. Ambitious as ever, the second I got back to Texas, I searched for the top solar companies in the state and immediately started applying. Within two weeks, I landed a sales job at a top 15 national solar company based out of Fort Worth, Texas. I couldn’t wait to hit the ground running. By the second month working for the company, I became a top sales rep, generating over two-hundred and fifty thousand dollars a month in revenue, while holding the highest closing percentage in the company at 74%.

Four months later, I received a promotion to run the Houston market. I became the youngest Regional Sales Manager in the companies history at 22 years of age. While I had my work cut out for me. I was able to revamp the Houston team, making it a leading market, with revenues as high as a million dollars per month. One year after becoming a Regional Sale Manager, I received another promotion. Becoming a Managing Director and a partner in the business. With this new role, I managed five markets across the country, which included Houston, Kansas City, New Jersey, Orlando, and Tampa. Within six weeks, revenue and production increased drastically, turning those markets into successful high converting branches of the company.

But after two years, I decided it was time to start my own company. I started a consulting firm called MittGroup. MittGroup is a sales & marketing firm that specializes in the renewable energy space. We partner with some of the largest solar installers in the nation to handle all of the installations for the company. Because of our great partnerships, we provide some of the absolute best installs, warranties, and customer service in the country. Because of this, it has helped us grow at a rapid pace. Within just 50 days, we grew to 21 sales reps and over 1.5 million dollars in revenue. By the end of the year we are expected to more than double our headcount and start expanding to all major Texas markets. MittGroup is on pace to become a 10 million dollar plus business.

The best advice I can give anyone aspiring to be successful is to forget everything you learned in high school and instead study the greats: Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos and more. There are so many books and interviews you can use to understand the way these people think. Then start implementing their thinking & processes into your life. It’s actually very simple. Like Tony Robbins says, 80% of success in anything is psychology and 20% is mechanics. The beliefs you hold are guiding every decision you make. If you make different decisions, you will take different actions, and when you take different actions, you will achieve different results.

Has it been a smooth road?
While there have been great successes along the way, I don’t think there has been a week, or much less a day where I haven’t had to overcome some obstacle. I’ve had to rebuild teams, start from scratch, and fix problems that affect people and their families well being. One part of leadership is making key decisions that affect many other than just yourself or your direct family.

But instead of constantly worrying or stressing about these decisions, after about six months of stressing through my first leadership position. I decided to embrace the uncertainty. I realized if I couldn’t handle this, then I could never continue to make it to the next level in life. Once I did this, I saw a massive difference in the results.

On the solar side, we have revolutionized the industry by being able to completely design a top to bottom, smart, energy-efficient solar home where homeowners can become fully energy independent without ever affecting their monthly budgets. Then for e-commerce, I specialize in products that greatly improve people’s everyday lives. Because of great relationships with our manufacturers, we’re able to offer low competitive pricing for high quality products.
