Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Martin.
Gregory, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A wise man once told me that if I love what I do and to do it so good that people start paying me to do it, then I will never have to work another day of your life. It’s a beautiful thing when a passion and a career come together. I had one vision in mind when I started my company and that was to help people to achieve their health and fitness goals by helping them to live a healthy life using diet, exercise and massage therapy. I strongly believe therapeutic massage is needed to live a well-balanced life and is also a crucial part of the recovery process from bodily injuries caused from overuse, trauma and stress.
My clients come in all shapes, sizes, ages, and skills levels from all walks of life – chronic pain sufferers, professional athletes, weekend warriors, dancers, musicians, post-surgery patients, home-bound patients, stressed out and fatigued office workers, pregnant women, healthy people, and massage connoisseurs.
What inspired me to become a massage therapist?
It’s more like who inspired me. I had a very good friend in California who suffered from tension headaches. One day, I told him to sit back in his chair and I’d see what I could do. I started massaging his neck and shoulders and within fifteen minutes his headache was gone. He was so excited and ask me if I ever thought about being a massage therapist.
I decided to go to school and in 1993 began my career as a massage therapist and a massage therapy instructor. As they say, “The rest is history!”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Building a business is never easy. There are always obstacles and challenges – that’s the growing season! It takes time to grow your clientele and market yourself to get your name out there. I choose to remain positive and eat the elephant one bite at a time.
Massage by Gregory – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a massage therapist and massage therapy instructor with over 25+ years’ experience. MBG is a locally owned, community-minded business dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of our neighbors in the Heights and throughout Houston area.
I offer a wide variety of specialized techniques that allow me to approach each client’s needs with a customized massage.
I am trained in the following modalities: Deep Tissue/Trigger Point Massage, Sports Massage, Medical Massage, Swedish Massage, Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, Traditional Thai Massage, Craniosacral Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Couples Massage, Reflexology, and Kinesiology Taping.
What makes me different from the rest? Client satisfaction is always my number one priority. My massages are a full 60 or 90 minutes with complimentary hydrotherapy and aromatherapy. Other studios provide a 45-minute massage (when getting a 60-minute massage) and charge for additional services (hot stone therapy, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, etc.)
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is partnering with my client to help them reach their body, health and fitness goals whether it be a training for a marathon, recovering from an injury or simply relieving everyday stress.
I also view success as helping other like-minded LMT build their business. I founded The Massage & Bodywork Specialists a couple of years ago. We are a unique group of independent business owners who are all LMT. I believe in sharing my time, gifts and talents with others.
