Today we’d like to introduce you to Grendl Tucker.
Grendl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have owned CenterPoint Body Mind and Spirit for approximately three years, after having been an independent spiritual advisor, and stay-at-home mom for many years. After I relocated to Houston at the beginning of 2012, I began reading the Tarot at CenterPoint every Sunday. It was originally founded about 35 years ago by Douglas and Jenny Grier and as the first of its kind in Houston, CenterPoint has always been an innovative metaphysical and spiritual center, and it is a model that has been emulated here in Houston. After deciding to retire in 2015, Jenny chose me to carry on her mission with CenterPoint. My dedication is to create and foster a community center open to adults and families who are looking for new ways to heal body, mind and spirit through healthier living, personal growth, and hands-on experience. We connect customers to affordable quality education with professional teachers, ministers, healers, therapists, artists, counselors and life coaches, as well as with services with health and wellness practitioners. CenterPoint Body Mind and Spirit offers the community a sacred space where all can explore alternative healing and metaphysical practices and meet like-minded persons in an atmosphere of love and acceptance.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Taking over CenterPoint was relatively smooth, as I am passionate about the service this business provides, but there were some who didn’t know me or felt that I hadn’t been a Houstonian long enough to continue CenterPoint. I also have had some indecision about the name, especially after storms or hurricanes that cause power outages. Some years after this center was established, an electric provider established themselves also with the name CenterPoint, so every time there are electrical issues, I get a few desperate people trying any CenterPoint number. I have created some confusion by using two names, the Metaphysical Matrix and CenterPoint Body Mind and Spirit, but my vision is that the Matrix is an umbrella over other sole-proprietor businesses that use our space to meet clients and hold classes and work-shops.
CenterPoint Body Mind and Spirit – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
CenterPoint Body Mind and Spirit is known to be the host of the longest-running weekly Holistic Expos and Psychic Fairs in Houston, providing Houston’s best psychics, mediums, numerologists and tarot readers as well as certified practitioners of Massage, Reflexology, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Herbalism, and other alternative forms of healing. We have a core team of practitioners and readers available every day, but also offer events with traveling speakers, healers and teachers.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success with CenterPoint is finding out that we have truly helped any individual find a better perspective towards their life, and that we have launched new practitioners with their business. I get a lot of very positive feedback from our clients and visitors, sharing their personal healing stories, and giving great comments on the compassion, the acceptance and the feelings that they can overcome their fears, blocks and obstacles that have limited their success. And I really do love to see the experiences that new practitioners have that help them create a strong client base and success on their own.
