Meet Haley Miller of Sassafras Boutique & Gifts in Katy, Texas/ online

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Miller.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Haley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always wanted to open my own boutique. I love getting dressed up & styling different pieces together. After graduating from the University of Arkansas in May of 2016, I worked in downtown Houston and quickly realized this was not what I wanted. I saved money from working & in December of 2016 I quit my job and opened Sassafras. Through 2017 I spent a lot of time researching different marketing strategies, how to separate myself from other boutiques & a lot of prayer!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think that anyone opening a new business is going to have bumps in the road, but how you deal with them makes you different. I think that for the most part it has been a trial and error style to find what works best for Sassafras & our customers. Some struggles included shipping & everything that is associated with that. Since Sassafras is only online right now, besides a few pop up shops throughout the year, shipping is a huge factor that took a lot of trial and error to perfect.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sassafras Boutique & Gifts story. Tell us more about the business.
Sassafras is an online women’s clothing boutique. We bring fun & on trend items that are more affordable. We love working with other small businesses in Texas. This is one thing that separates us from other boutiques. We also use local girls from Katy to model for us!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not think luck has played a role in my life or business. I think if you work hard you will get back twice as much. Throughout my life I have always had a strong work ethic & faith. I think that both of these things have shaped me in who I am as a person and as a business owner. I have shaped my business around this bible verse:

Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight”
