Hi Hana Elizabeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I am Hanä Rodriguez! The owner of Sweets by H.E.R. I have always loved to bake! Mostly cupcakes, brownies or chocolate chip cookies. In the Fall of 2019/Quarantine 2020, I found my passion (Custom Sugar Cookies). It all started by my mother and I watching a Cookie Decorating show on TV. It interested me so much, I decided to give it a try! (They make it look so easy on TV!) My first decorated cookie was a snowflake during the Christmas season! The cookie had many flaws that I was determined to fix! This pandemic definitely gave me A LOT of time to practice. I would stay up till three almost four in the morning baking/decorating cookies! I soon made an Instagram & Facebook to post my work. Little by little, my client list started to grow! Here I am, one year later feeling incredibly blessed by the amount of support I have. From my customers, followers, family and husband.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not! I started this business not only because I enjoyed it so much but because my husband lost his job due to COVID-19. We needed a way to pay the bills. My husband has been my number 1 supporter throughout this journey. He has been by my side through it all. From staying up late, helping me clean or reminding me to take a break and eat! I would not change one thing that has happened throughout this journey. Because it led me to the career of my dreams.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make custom sugar cookies for ALL occasions! Yes, ALL occasions! (i.e., baby shower, birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc.) I love designing cookie orders based on a few colors and ideas. I am extremely honored that people want something that I create with my hands. What sets me apart from others is that I am extremely passionate about my work. I take pride in my craft. Making custom sugar cookies brings me joy and I would like to share that with you!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
COVID-19 taught me that Family matters more than we realize. My family has been a huge support in my small business and I am forever grateful for them.
