Meet Hannah Rice of Hannah’s Hair Haven in Atascocita

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Rice.

Hannah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always had a love for hair and beauty for as long as I can remember. I was always playing makeover with my barbies or giving my mom a heart attack with my at home botched haircuts in my younger years. Shortly after graduating high school, I attended Regency Beauty Institute in the spring area, graduating in 2014. After a couple of years of trial and error services, I found my true passion in hair coloring, more specifically blonding and balayage services. I went through a couple of corporate/commission type salons before I finally was able to go out on my own as an independent stylist. After six years in the industry, I opened up my own suite inside of Blue Lion Salon Studios in the Atascocita area. Its been an amazing journey thus far and my clients love being in the private space.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The first couple of years out of cosmetology school were definitely tough! I questioned my career choice quite a few times. I definitely messed up a lot in the beginning because I really had no idea what I was doing. I did a lot of self-teaching and online tutorials until I really found my niche in hair color. Once I really grasped the chemistry and technicality behind it all, It really became like second nature to me. Hair is my art and my clients are my canvas and I couldn’t picture myself doing anything else at this point.

Hannah’s Hair Haven – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am an independent hairdresser that specializes in hair coloring services such as blonding, color correction and balayage. I also offer haircut services, hair treatments and hair extensions. I feel I’m known most for my drastic hair transformations. I can take a client that has been through some pretty unfortunate hair mishaps and transform their hair into something so beautiful and it really just helps boost their confidence. I think what sets me apart is how I treat my clients. A lot of my clients have been with me for a long time and I always make sure they get all of my undivided attention VS trying to shuffle multiple clients at once. I have a very close relationship with majority of my clients and consider them like family.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I feel like success to me is being able to find something that you are truly passionate about and being able to support yourself financially from it. I feel it’s super important to wake up every day and be excited to go into work VS dreading going into work. Life is too short to not enjoy what you do every day. Being self-employed has also been a life changer for me. I love being able to create my own schedule, take vacations when I want to, make more time for family and most importantly not having to answer to anyone but myself. You definitely have more responsibilities working for yourself but it has also helped me grow as a person as well and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
