Meet Heather Armijo of Heather Armijo Photography in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Armijo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Heather. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My desire to capture my kids through photographs is what led me to becoming a professional photographer. I began the journey as a self-taught photographer and the more I learned, they more I realized how much passion I had for not only documenting my family, but other families as well.

I opened my business in the fall of 2012 and each year, as it’s grown tremendously, I have had the honor of meeting and photographing hundreds of families. Within the first year of business, I quickly realized I wanted to specialize in newborn photography- posing and photographing little one during their first days of life. I invested in education and workshops to become trained in newborn safety and posing in order to offer this service to my clients. Today, Heather Armijo Photography has grown and moved into a commercial studio space, allowing for more set-ups and various types of sessions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My business has been lucky to have the support of my community. With loyal clients returning year after year and new clients trusting me, the growth of the business has been steady.

The biggest challenge as a business owner has always been balancing my personal life. Raising six kids can be a full-time job in itself. I have had to learn to set clear policies and practices, this benefits client as they know what the can expect from me and helps me balance my work load.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Heather Armijo Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Heather Armijo Photography specializes in newborn photography and documenting that journey from baby bumps to baby’s first year. My photographs are bright and clear and focus on my subject(s) with no distractions. From preparing my clients, to working hard during my sessions I pride myself on my professionalism and allowing my clients to relax and enjoy the experience while I photograph their family.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel lucky to have realized this talent within myself and the rest has been hard work and dedication that have created opportunity.
