Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Armijo.
Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my photography business in 2012 and originally photographed families and young children. A dear friend at the time was expecting and asked me to photograph her newborn baby, something I had never done before. I agreed, did some research to learn all I could and had my first newborn session, a disaster. It was a completely different skill but one that I knew immediately I wanted to master. After that first newborn session, I knew I wanted to focus on newborn baby photography. I practiced and trained with other photographers and now, 12 years later, hundreds of babies later, I do feel that I have mastered the art of newborn photography. While I do offer maternity, baby and family sessions still, my passion is working with newborns.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a long road, one with slow growth and changes throughout the year to cater to what my clients love. I have had three studio spaces, growing larger with each move throughout the years. My newest studio offers the perfect amount of space with a separate seating area that has been perfect for families to relax in while I photograph their newborn baby.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a newborn, maternity, family photographer in Katy, Texas.
I’m also a mother of four amazing, wonderful, constantly growing and changing children of my own! My desire to capture my kids through photographs is what led me to becoming a professional photographer. I know first hand how quickly we move through the stages of our lives. I focus on newborns and all the excitement that surrounds this stage- from your pregnancy to baby’s first birthday, to yearly seasonal family photos.
I love getting to know my clients and being apart of their lives. There’s nothing more rewarding than having clients come back to HAP for photographs year after year. I also pride myself on my professionalism. I want your portrait experience to be just that- an experience! From quick correspondence to giving clients all the information needed to prepare for a successful session- I am here every step of the way through this process.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
My definition of success changes each year, shaped by the season of life I’m in. Right now, as my kids seem to be growing faster than I can keep up with, success looks less like constant hustle and more like balance. It’s the ability to provide exceptional service to my clients while still being fully present at home — soaking in the everyday moments, the conversations, and the milestones that pass by too quickly. This season has taught me that true success isn’t just measured by professional achievements, but by creating a life where my work supports my family, not competes with it.
