Meet Heather Browand of Always Photogenic Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Browand.

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Photography has always been the heart of my story. I was drawn to it because of the connection, the emotion, and the ability to preserve moments and people in a way that felt real and lasting. Over the years, what started as a passion grew into Always Photogenic Photography, and through a lot of hard work, experience, and growth, I built a business centered around storytelling. My focus has always been creating images that feel honest, meaningful, and personal, whether that’s for weddings, portraits, branding sessions, or other important seasons in people’s lives.
Right after high school, I did have a background in marketing and advertising, which gave me an early understanding of branding, communication, and how to connect with people. But photography was what truly took the lead in my career and became the foundation of what I built. Once my photography business was established, the marketing side naturally came back into the picture. As I worked with more clients and business owners, I found myself helping them not only with images, but also with how they presented their brand, created content, and showed up professionally online.
That’s really how I got to where I am today. Photography came first and became the foundation, and marketing grew alongside it over time as an extension of the work I was already doing. Now I’m able to serve people in both ways, but it all still begins with storytelling, connection, and helping people share who they are through strong, authentic visuals.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been completely smooth, but it is still a path I would choose again a thousand times over.
Like anything built over a long period of time, there have been bumps along the way. I’ve had to grow my business while raising children, navigating separation, experiencing seasons of single motherhood, and still doing my best to maintain a professional presence through it all. There were times I handled things well, and there were also times I had to own mistakes, make things right, and learn from them. I think that is just part of the reality of a long career and a real life happening at the same time.
At the same time, I do not want to make it sound like the journey has been all bad, because it absolutely has not. This career has brought me so much joy, purpose, connection, and growth. It has introduced me to incredible people, meaningful experiences, and opportunities I am deeply grateful for. The challenges have simply been part of the story, not the whole story.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that mistakes are part of growth if you are willing to learn from them, so you are less likely to repeat them. I also believe it is important to create safe spaces where people can be honest about the hard parts of life and business, because none of us are meant to do this alone. More than anything, I’ve learned to value community over competition and to keep moving forward with humility, gratitude, and resilience.

As you know, we’re big fans of Always Photogenic Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Always Photogenic Photography is a storytelling-driven brand built on connection, authenticity, and long-term relationships. I specialize first in branding and marketing photography, helping businesses, entrepreneurs, and brands create visual content that feels elevated, intentional, and true to who they are. From there, weddings are also a major part of what I do, along with engagements, bridals, boudoir, seniors, families, and portraits. My work is known for being clean, fresh, emotional, and artistic, with imagery that feels both polished and personal.
What sets my business apart most is the relationship I build with my clients. I am not looking to work with someone once and disappear. I want to build with them over time, to see their lives, families, and businesses grow, and to continue documenting those different chapters along the way. That is one of the most meaningful parts of my work. Whether I am photographing a brand, a wedding, or a personal milestone, I want my clients to feel seen, comfortable, and genuinely connected to the experience.
Because I also have a background in marketing and advertising, I bring more than photography to the table, especially for branding clients. I understand the importance of strong visuals, clear messaging, and creating content that not only looks beautiful but also supports the bigger picture of a business. That combination has allowed me to serve clients in a deeper way and create imagery that is both artistic and purposeful.
What I am most proud of brand-wise is that Always Photogenic Photography has been built with heart, resilience, and authenticity. It has grown through real relationships, consistency, and a genuine love for storytelling. More than anything, I want readers to know that my brand is about more than taking beautiful photos. It is about creating something meaningful, helping people tell their story well, and building lasting relationships that continue far beyond one session.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think there are definitely going to be big shifts in both photography and marketing over the next 5 to 10 years, especially with AI continuing to grow. I understand why AI can feel intimidating to a lot of people, but I also believe that authenticity still matters deeply. People want something real. They want connection, emotion, personality, and the kind of work that comes from human experience and imagination. AI may continue to improve, but I think it still has a long way to go before it can truly replace what an artist creates through instinct, vision, and lived experience.
On the marketing side, I think the industry will continue to grow because the number of entrepreneurs, small businesses, and personal brands continues to grow. More people are building businesses, which means more people need content, branding, and ways to stand out in a crowded space. That will keep creating opportunity for photographers, marketers, and creatives who know how to help businesses show up in a strong and authentic way.
Of course, there will always be trends, changes, and shifts in style. That is part of every creative industry. But to me, that is also part of the beauty of being an artist. There is an ebb and flow to it. Things evolve, tastes change, and new tools come in, but creativity keeps moving. I think the people who will continue to do well are the ones who stay open, stay grounded in who they are, and keep learning. In this kind of work, learning is something we have to continue doing every day.
