Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Campo.
Hi Heather, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my accounting career at Stewart & Stevenson in Houston from 2000 t0 2007. I worked in various positions from Staff Accountant, Location and Regional Controller positions to Financial Reporting Manager in Corporate.
I obtained my CPA license in 2006. In 2007, I went to work for El Paso Energy until I retired to be a stay-at-home mom. For the past six years, I have been the treasurer for the PTA at my children’s schools. Recently both my children have entered middle school and I have less volunteer work with their school, so I started to think about what I wanted to do with my extra time.
I decided that I wanted to start my bookkeeping business because I really enjoyed being the treasurer for the PTA. I also really enjoy helping people in the background. By serving as a bookkeeper for small businesses, I can help them understand their finances and help them make sound decisions based on good financial data.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. My weakness is that I like to be in the background helping and guiding. As a business owner myself now, I have to put myself out in the world as a business owner to try and acquire clients. Selling myself and my skills to people that don’t know me have been hard.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I actually started my business after COVID, but in ways, it has helped because people are more open to Cloud-based applications and help.
