Meet Heather Galloway of Crosby Dance Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Galloway.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Heather. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been passionate about dance. I grew up dancing and then transitioned to teaching at the studio where I trained. After attending college, I became a middle school science teacher. Naturally, I started a dance team at my school! After several years, I left teaching and began working as an Industrial Project Manager. It was a big, but welcome change! But something was missing – I wasn’t dancing anymore! I missed watching kids learn and grow. After some soul-searching and serious conversations with family, I decided to open a dance studio for children. My friend and mentor Melissa Rayburn took me under her wing and shared her expertise in studio ownership. My husband and I competed in the HCC Business Plan Competition and received an Honorable Mention Award as a Top 5 Finalist. With many blessings and a few bumps along the way, Crosby Dance Academy opened in June 2017. We are now in our 3rd year of business. We are so grateful to the community for welcoming us and supporting CDA!

Has it been a smooth road?
I would never say it’s been smooth, but I do try to focus on all of the wonderful aspects of studio ownership and the freedoms it allows. If you’re specifically interested in the challenges, they have mainly been facility-related. For example, just a few months after opening, Hurricane Harvey hit and our building flooded. We closed for two weeks to replace the flooring. Our most recent struggle is space! We need more space for classes and more space for our observation room. It’s a great problem to have!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Crosby Dance Academy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
CDA is devoted to providing a safe and fun environment with outstanding dance instruction to help children achieve their highest potential through the development of mind, body, and spirit. We offer dynamic, high-quality, and affordable dance education and training in a positive and professional environment. In addition to focusing on proper technique, we strive to enhance students’ self-esteem and values while encouraging friendships among our students & their families that expand outside of the studio. We encourage all students to work hard and to be kind. We believe by teaching children these two simple concepts that we can positively impact the youth, as well as others, in our community. The overarching purpose of CDA is to teach children to not only be good dancers, but also good people. I truly believe this focus is what sets us apart from other studios. We offer two recitals each year to showcase the growth of our students. Our most popular classes are our Preschool Dance classes and our Acro classes. (Acro is a dance-focused form of tumbling.)

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Houston because we have (almost) everything here! I love Crosby for its small-town feel. I also love the proximity to downtown and the beach when I want to get out. My least favorite thing is probably the traffic!
