Meet Heather Rosas of Alanna Grace Designs in The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Rosas.

Heather, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been creating custom designs and clothing since I received my first hand me down sewing machine at age nine. It was always something I loved to do with my grandmother and mother and some of my fondest memories are creating things with them. Unfortunately, I got away from it in college when I went to Texas A&M and decided to pursue economics and finance. I ended up in corporate tax and finance for the oil and gas industry and loved my career. However, after having my first daughter, my passion for designing and creating clothing was renewed. I enjoyed making custom things just for her and any events we were doing.

I noticed at that time, there seemed to be a gap in fashion for moms. I found that a lot of clothing geared towards moms at the time lacked personality and comfort, so I started designing and making my own. It grew from that into a small business and eventually I was able to leave the corporate world to pursue Alanna Grace Designs further. Everything being fully custom allowed everyone to not only feel comfortable but beautiful in what they wore. I truly believe design is fun and clothes should demonstrate our unique personalities and I hope this is reflected in our designs. We cater to all sizes and styles and have expanded to include screen printing, DTG printing, embroidery and more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Haha, no, but I’ve enjoyed all of our peaks and all of our valleys because we have learned so much about our amazing clients and ourselves. I think the hardest struggle of them all was leaving the corporate world and my rewarding career in finance to pursue my passion full time. It’s scary. You have all of these what if moments and doubts, but I have never been happier going to work in the mornings than when I get to go do what I love!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Alanna Grace Designs story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in custom decorated apparel. We screen print, DTG (Direct to Garment) print, embroider, sublimate and so much more. I think one of the things that set us apart is that we can take on an order of one fully custom printed garment or 5,000 custom printed garments. We have no minimums required to order so we can work on almost any project for anyone. We are known for custom design and super soft, high-quality tees. They feel lived right from the first wash.

Two of my favorite things about us are: We are one of the only local shops that only use water-based inks and formaldehyde free treatments on our garments. We really want our clients to love the shirts they get from us and we feel a huge part of that is knowing what you are putting on your body is safe for both you and the environment. We strive to be as eco-friendly as possible and are always evaluating an improving our products to help reach that goal.

The second thing that I love is that we give 10% of our profits each month to charity. Each month we choose a different charity to sponsor and we often ask our amazing clients for their input. We love learning about these organizations and how they help our community in the best ways possible. It truly is something near and dear to us. Our local community has been unbelievably supportive and knowing that we can give back in some small way means the world.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I honestly believe that I have been blessed beyond measure in both life and business. I know that Alanna Grace Designs would not exist without the incredible support from my family, friends, and husband. They have all jumped in to help pack and mail orders, entertain kids, and have been wonderful cheerleaders when I felt like giving up. I know I could not have done any of this without them. In fact, it was one of my best friends that pushed me to make a career out of my passion. She believed in me and that is the biggest blessing of all.
