Meet Heidi Simon of Sweet Cottontails in Memorial

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Simon.

Heidi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A Few years ago, I was a mom with two young boys very close in age. I was exhausted and de-pleated. I was looking for something that brought me joy. Something that would fill me up. I needed something that would make me feel like an adult. After caring and meeting the needs of my young children. I have always loved specifically needlepoint, crafts of detail so to say. I loved having my boys clothing monogrammed.

So I purchased a small monogram machine off of amazon and watched youtube videos and went at it. After some trying circumstances and big changes in my life, I started Sweet Cottontails. After self-teaching myself to monogram I had spent many nights thinking about doing it as a small business. I have a creative side to me, I am filled with great joy by pleasing my clients with adding applique or monogram to personalize their pieces. This last year I have spent putting my dreams into reality by creating the monogram and applique into a small business with big goals ahead. I purchased a commercial monogram machine learned how to applique, went to market, purchased advertising space and continue to push forward. Hoping for many years to come in adding a personalized touch to help create beautiful gifts or create a warm home. For those I have already served, love seeing returning faces. I have had the joy of making new relationships and hoping these last a lifetime.

Sweet Cottontails was founded officially in 2019 out of my pool house in piney point, texas.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As I am well seasoned in life, most does not come with a smooth road ahead. Nor has starting a small business. It is a joy for me to create, but there is the business side of things. I enjoy being challenged however when starting a business you can get overwhelmed with much. Needing to solve all problems ones that do not necessarily bring you joy. However, with many new learning curves there is pride in ownership. I tend to be determined with some grit added to that determination. I am thankful that I am still being challenged along with learning new things at a rapid pace.
