Today we’d like to introduce you to Helen Brison.
Hi Helen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
How I got started…it’s definitely not a glorious story. I’ve been told for close to ten years that I would make a good realtor. I truly didn’t have the confidence back then- to think that I could properly serve a family during such a pivotal time and process was very far-fetched for me. I’ve done a variety of things, mostly around people, serving and sales. I even used to sell the phone book (but I was terrible at it, lol).
My dad (step) ended up being taken from my mother by my stepsisters and he contracted covid and died. My mother had no money to take legal action to get him back. I had no money to help my mom get my dad back- it was one of the most painful trials of my life. I also didn’t have the ability to go down (before covid) and be with my mother due to my work situation at the time. I knew I had to do something different before then- but none of the doors (opportunities) I tried opened for me. I decided to go ahead and try real estate, because something had to change.
I was looking for a career that I had to possibility to enjoy. I was looking for the ability to provide for my family and have the flexibility to be more present for my family. Real Estate so far has proven to be the best vehicle for those goals. I absolutely adore working with my clients- educating them, helping them get into the best position to achieve their dreams, opening their minds to wealth-building opportunities, and I learn so much from them.
I am so grateful that I got out of my own way and tried something new. I got out of my comfort zone and left the area where I was an expert and tried something different- where I had to start from scratch and learn EVERYTHING.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been an “Instagram-worthy” journey, lol. My first few clients were rental clients, my first actual buyer clients wanted a half million-dollar home, and after 3.5 weeks of encouraging them to finally get with a lender- found out that they had no down payment or closing costs funds. I have had leads chat it up with me, ghost me, re-surface, ghost, and check in again. I also struggled with imposter syndrome- and despite being VERY well trained, I always worried about making sure I was giving my clients the best and helping them win.
My current struggle now- is as I am building my client pipeline and active clients, I want to make sure that everyone is being taken care of, that everyone feels seen and important no matter where they are in the process. And I am also building my business in two states now! It seems like every time I get settled and feel like “I’m on a role” – there is always something new to learn. There is always I can learn that helps me serve at a higher level. It’s one of the exciting things about our industry, there is always more to learn.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I absolutely love our service men and women. My grandfather, uncle, brothers, sister, cousins, and colleagues are active duty and military vets. I love taking care of their real estate needs and helping them get Every. Single. Thing. Their heart desires! I also have a heart for our hometown heroes- especially teachers. I also take great pride in helping start generational wealth through real estate. The ability to build wealth has been withheld from so many for generations. To be in a position to change the trajectory of a family by way of real estate is a wonderful honor.
From what my clients tell me, the things that sets me apart are that I listen. I care. I inform (sometimes too much lol), and I am very involved from start to finish. I am big on making sure that my clients understand every part of the process we are in – even if they have been through a real estate transaction before. I work to elevate the real estate process to the best of my ability- especially during this exciting sellers market (but I’m loving the normalizing market that we now are in!!!).
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is that my son sees mommy’s work and mommy’s impact. He loves helping me show houses and enjoys meeting my clients and their children. He even pouts a bit when closing is during his school hours. It’s the feeling of building this extended family. My son knows how much I care for people, and he models that care and compassion in his 6-year-old life. I’m so proud of him. It matters to me that I excel in my business because my husband and I have big dreams for our family and as he grows in his profession, I also want to grow in mine. As we grow together, we can actualize more, do more, serve more, and impact more.
