Meet Henry Williams of West Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Williams

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got started singing in church at the age of 4 with my pawpaw. It wasn’t until I was 11 or so when I picked up my first guitar. Learning guitar was easy and singing just made it more fun. I used to play for anyone any chance I got really. I always looked at it as a fun hobby because I wasn’t sure it was something I was gonna pursue. It wasn’t until after I graduated high school and was two years into my degree that I wanted to pursue music full time. I stopped going to school and went full on into music. I started at an open mic in Bellville, TX with a couple of buddies. I finally got my first show in Clear Lake Shores, TX at Okie’s Yardhouse after playing a few shows with a few other smaller Texas artists. It was great. I then took a trip to The Kenney Store in Kenney, TX for KARMA Open Mic Night which was on Thursday’s at the time. I met a ton of cool people including one of my good buddy’s Dylan Rhys and a few other younger artists. Before I knew it I went from playing 1-2 shows every other month to having 3-4 shows booked every month. It was great! Each gig really just kept opening doors. By the time I got my head wrapped around the boat ride I put myself on, I started supporting more well known artists like Josh Ward!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been easy, and there’s been a few bumps along the way, but that’s just apart of the journey. A struggle that’s consistent is finding work in some cases. A lot of times emails just don’t do it anymore and you have to make a few calls just to get a chance to talk to someone about playing a venue. I won’t say which venue but there was a time I made 4 calls in 1 day and even though it might seem like overkill, It worked with flying colors. Don’t give up just because you can’t get an answer the first time around.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Im a 21 year old singer/songwriter from Austin, TX but I’m primarily based in the Houston area. Im probably most known for singing country music at your local bar or venue. I’ve had a lot of growth and development over the last couple of years. And I’m proud of myself for adapting and overcoming lots of obstacles. I couldn’t have done that without my family and friends. My ambition and drive sets me apart from others, and my willingness to keep moving forward.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think that the scene is gonna change in a good way. In 5-10 years I think a new wave of artists are gonna change the game. There are so many young artists across the state that are already changing the way Texas country or red dirt sounds. Everyone’s bringing their own new twist, flavor and flare. It’s a very extraordinary thing to witness.
