Today we’d like to introduce you to Herman Finley
Herman, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Herman Lee Finley III was born on September 12, 1984, in Houston, Texas. He was the second oldest of 19 siblings from his father and the youngest of two from his mother. Growing up in a large family, Herman learned the value of community and support from an early age. He graduated from Jack Yates Senior High School in Houston in 2003, where he developed a passion for helping others. Initially pursuing a career in the arts, Herman attended the Art Institute of Houston to study interior design. However, his path took a significant turn when he found his calling in the healthcare field. He began his career at St. Hope Foundation as a Health Education Risk Reduction Coordinator, where he worked for 15 years, focusing on HIV prevention and health education.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building trust with customers often takes time, but it starts with consistency, transparency, and delivering on promises. Strong customer support, clear communication, and positive reviews or testimonials can help. Also, creating value through high-quality products or services that meet customer needs is key. Consider offering guarantees or warranties to help build confidence in your product. Trust is a two-way street. If you’re struggling to trust your employees, it may be due to poor communication, lack of clear expectations, or a failure to delegate. Building trust requires fostering an environment of mutual respect, establishing clear goals, providing feedback, and empowering employees to take ownership of their work. It might also help to focus on hiring people who align with your company culture and values. Securing funding can be one of the most challenging aspects of starting or growing a business. You might explore various options like bootstrapping, loans, crowdfunding, or seeking investment from venture capitalists or angel investors. Be prepared with a solid business plan and financial projections to demonstrate the potential for growth. In some cases, securing funding may require patience and persistence, as well as networking with individuals who believe in your business. Personal life challenges—whether they’re family issues, health problems, or financial pressures—can heavily impact your ability to focus on your business. Time management, setting realistic goals, and seeking support from friends, mentors, or business advisors can help. It’s also important to recognize when you need to take a step back for self-care or when to delegate tasks to others to prevent burnout. Life obstacles are tough, but resilience and adaptability are key to navigating them successfully.
If you’re dealing with these struggles right now, or reflecting on past experiences, you’re not alone. Many entrepreneurs face similar challenges. What specific aspect of these struggles would you like to dive deeper into? Or are you currently working on solutions for any of them?
