Meet Hope Obadan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Obadan.

Hope, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A friend of mine wanted to start a fashion company. We both were working on this project at the time. It came to the point we needed pictures of the clothes so we used to borrow or rent from photographers we could get but that became too expensive. One day I opened a credit line for Best Buy and got my first camera. We kept working but over time we got caught up with school and work so we took a break. The camera sat in my room for a couple months until one day I picked it up and started shooting. It was just a hobby at first. I started with still life shots and street photography. I looked up a lot of great photographers like Ansel Adams, Annie Leibovitz and Peter Lindbergh and studied their works. I was also inspired by some photographers around the city. Eventually I started shooting with models, going to events and even travelling and it was all uphill from there.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I has and it hasn’t; mostly it has been the funding part of photography. Photography is expensive so for me as a student working part time making “not enough” was the hard part. I always needed something new to push my creativity to the next level. I always looked at magazines and look up what equipment were used and et cetera but it really came down to doing the best with what you have. I also remember the time my first camera got stolen, I was devastated. I gave up pretty much but my father knew of my work and was impressed so he kept me afloat got me another one. Since that time, I always kept my camera safe like my life. Apart from that I have always believed in myself and never strayed away from my goal and vision.

Please tell us bout your business.
I am a photographer experienced in events, concerts, weddings, birthdays. I’m also the guy to hit if you need an album cover for you artists out there. As a fashion fanatic, I work with models on fashion shoots and all round anything creative. I am proud of how far I have come with photography. A lot of people are starting to notice my art taste and want to work with me so that’s a blessing.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m proud of the connections I have made. I know a lot of people who are valuable in the photography field. I’m proud of the sacrifices I have made. I have proved to myself that I am worth more than what negative vibrations emit about me. It’s one thing to think something about yourself and another to walk in and live it.
