Meet Howard Schencker of Chemical Connection Company in Sugar Land

Today we’d like to introduce you to Howard Schencker.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Howard. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 1984, I was working for a chemical distributer and realized that no matter how hard I worked I could not go any farther than just a salesman so I decided to take a chance and go open Chemical Connection Company and make all of the calls and decisions myself.

It was a big risk as I was not sure if the customers would follow and fortunately many of them did. 33 years later, Chemical Connection has grown with more employees and more opportunities. My immediate family helped me get started in the beginning, and now my son works at the company with me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning it was hard to borrow money to pay suppliers, but we got through it with one loyal bank. The biggest struggle was adapting with technology, as when I opened the company it was all done over the phone with no emails. I am still struggling today with technology, as I am old fashioned business man.

Please tell us about Chemical Connection Company.
Chemical Connection Company is a company that distributes chemicals from all over the world. We specialize in great customer service and on-time deliveries with no backorders. I am most proud that we have a great reputation and always tell the truth to both customers and suppliers. We truly care about each and individual customer-big or small and I think that sets us apart from the bigger chemical companies, which are mostly publicity traded.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I swam competitively in high school and college, which gave me a great work ethic and an edge to be competitive.
