Meet Ian Cochran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Cochran.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I picked up the guitar when I was 15. Messed around on it here and there. Started a band when I was 16. We couldn’t find a singer, so I said f*ck it. I’ll do it. Didn’t really know how to sing back then but kind of developed my own style I guess.

After high school, the band split up, and everyone went there own separate ways. I moved to Los Angeles with a girlfriend and casually played acoustically here and there. My best friend moved up to LA to join me in an acoustic duo. Didn’t play much but had fun making music and writing songs.

Bounced around in Santa Barbara playing acoustically as well. Playing wineries, bars, private events. Developing my voice and songwriting skills. Was really contemplating if music was for me.

Made a decision one day to move to Austin. Asked my guy Brad if he wanted to join. And we were off. Packed up everything we could and drove off.

Been in Austin Texas now for three years. We have been nominated for a Black Fret Grant, received Runner – Up “Best New Band” by the Austin Music Awards in 2016, was voted Austin’s Best Band by the chronicle in 2017, and this year, we are nominated for Best Performing Group – Rock by the Austin Music Awards.

Been one hell of a ride attempting to live the dream.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a songwriter. I’d like to think I am a storyteller. I write about my experiences in life. A lot of those experiences are about the party. Alcohol has been my best and worst friend through this journey. Those experiences come out a lot during the writing process. Heartbreaks and breaking hearts also seem to be a thing. I hope people listen to my music and feel something. Hopefully, it’s a good feeling. Hopefully, it’s inspirational and puts you in a mood for better or for worse.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Get out of your comfort zone. Go see and do the things you don’t want to do. Always go to your friends’ shows. Network with everyone there. Pass out your business cards. Be known. Make sure people remember who you are when you leave. Be a force. It’s hard at first but once you get past that part, it gets easier, and it’s very rewarding.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We are currently working on an album. We have two songs on all musical platforms, from 2 years ago. Coming out with new songs soon
