Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Dennis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
All of this began with what I thought was the worst thing that can happen as a young teenager – losing my hair. I had tried everything out there but hair loss is a losing battle.
I found out about Scalp Micropigmentation or Micro Scalp Micropigmentation in around 2011, back then a relatively new procedure. It did a lot for me and helped bring back any lost confidence from hair loss. I tried everything for hair loss and this was the one thing that was actually guaranteed. After this, I began training with the company that did my treatment, HIS Hair Clinic in England, who are the pioneers of the treatment. I trained with them for six months. I began working for them in their USA clinics and became their first permanent practitioner in their Houston office. Hence, why I ended up here!
Painting, drawing, have been a major part of my life from a very young age. I studied fine art after High School. My favorite part of creating is when the first draft is done and I can get deep into the details and take the quality of my work to the highest level that is possible. The same process goes into my scalp micropigmentation treatments.
I left his hair clinic and set up my own clinic in Houston – Scalpp Clinic. I wanted to take the procedure to the next level of realism and provide a more personal service.
I came to the US as my wife is American. We chose Houston because out of all the cities that I worked in America – Texas (both the people and the state) were my favorites.
This was followed by Scalpp Academy, where we train the next generation of Scalp Pigmentation Technicians.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Going from being an employee doing Scalp Micropigmentation to running my own business doing this was a big challenge. I learned a lot of different skills – logo design, website design, marketing, accounting. This all can make things seem like an uphill struggle.
As we got over that, my wife quit her job to help me out as we got very busy. It was a risk for her to quit but it worked out well, having that support and the work spread out between two people makes all the difference. She also buys my Doughnuts, Doughnuts are a very important part of running a business, chocolate Doughnuts especially.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Scalpp Clinic – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We perform Scalp Micropigmentation aka Hair Tattoo. We use ink to recreate hair follicles on the scalp. This works for:
– Women (or Men) with thinning hair, to create the look of density and thicker or fuller hair. A quarter of my clients are Women with either thining hair or receding side profiles.
– Men who are fully bald and wish to create the look of a closely shaved head or to restore their hairline.
– Those with scars on their head from either hair transplants or any type of surgery.
– Alopecia clients, to blend any alopecia spots with the remaining hair or to cover the whole head.
We are proud to treat every client as if we are treating our own scalp. We know that this means a lot to people so our job is to guide them with confidence that they will receive a result as good, if not better, than what they see on our website or online. We are known in the industry for our hairlines, which are extremely detailed and take longer to complete than any other part of the head. I can now also make the treatment have a more textured and 3D look to it by combining different sized pigments and color shades too.
I am personally very proud that we have trained more Technicians in Texas than anybody else, all one-on-one training too. These are permanent make-up artists, hair transplant surgeons, barbers, tattooists – and also former clients with no related experience that wish to become a Technician.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I always want to keep raising the standards and improve treatments, whether this is through a different way of doing things or new tools that are coming out. We now have a clinic in Austin that is run by one of the most talented people that I have ever trained, we have no plans for others yet but who knows. I don’t want to become a big corporation, I like the closeness with my clients and the personal approach we have.
Buy a British Telephone box and put it in the clinic. I’m not sure what I would actually do with it but it would really go with the decor.
