Meet Ikechi Ojore of Iojoreimagery in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ikechi Ojore.

Ikechi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started posting my thoughts and feelings about failed relationships on Instagram and Facebook. The response was amazing, an outpouring of support and thanks for a man being able to write his feelings. There seemed to be a question to whether or not men thought the way I expressed. I really wanted to paint the picture that men do have emotions, we’ve just been silenced by society’s rolls.

After a few postings I was asked when my book would be available, I truly never had any intention of writing anything past a couple of posts. A year and a half later, I have a book called “To my future #wcw” the same name as my posts on Instagram. I’ve traveled the US on a book tour, speaking to singles and couples about opening the lines of communication.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I’ve been questioned about my intent since the day I posted my first one. Women are thinking that this was my way of gaming women or men thinking that I was speaking out of terms when it comes to one’s thoughts and emotions.

Trying to introduce people to a new way of thinking has never been easy, imagine being taught men can express their feelings, we just hadn’t been taught how. That we need to learn to recreate our thoughts and talk to the ones we love about how we think. Coupled with the process of writing and self-publishing a book, it hasn’t been an easy road.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Iojoreimagery story. Tell us more about the business.
Iojoreimagery is a content platform that I created in order to promote creative visual artistry. Through video and photography, we try and paint the picture of an artists needs. This began as a way for me to visually display the array of emotions I would write into each of my pieces I’d post on Instagram.

It spawned into a way for me to help other creatives promote their works. I’ve worked with several businesses promoting their charitable endeavors, this brings me the greatest joy. Giving back to community efforts and being able to document that, telling the story through video is always amazing.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There seems to be an endless need for content creation. The changes in it seem to be only bound to the platform that it is posted to. It can only get better, we are a visual generation. We tend to want bigger, better, more authentic imagery.
