Today we’d like to introduce you to Ilse Bekker.
Hi Ilse, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in the Netherlands, and moved to the US in 1995. Fascinated by photography, I started taking pictures with my iPhone on my walks around Houston. Three years ago I purchased a real camera, a Canon, and took photography classes. I have been hooked ever since.
Over the years, I have spent my time experimenting with the camera in order to get a better understanding of photography.
Architecture, nature and the simple things in life are my passion. My camera goes everywhere I go, unfortunately with the pandemic in 2020 I was not able to travel much, hopefully this will change soon. I enjoy going on excursions to photograph a certain subject. I prefer to be behind the camera, not in front of it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been pretty smooth. I do this all for fun, in my free time. I just created my website which is still work in progress.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Besides taking pictures I work for one of the large oil companies here in Houston. I support the SVP Marketing & Growth in the Executive Assistant position. That’s my day job, taking pictures I do in my free time.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was going on vacation with my parents and sister. We would travel from The Netherlands to Spain, stop in nice hotels on the way, and spent time at the beach during summer vacation. We would travel with other families and had lots of fun.
