Hi Iman, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi there, my name is Iman, and I am the owner of Skinful Aesthetics, a Medical Spa here in Houston, Texas. I have been in this industry my entire adult life. This is all I really know. I got my first spa job at the age of 17.
I was working at the front desk as a receptionist, then was licensed as an esthetician as soon as I turned 18. I am currently a licensed esthetician and laser technician and have most recently been certified as an aesthetic injector. I strive to expand my knowledge in the aesthetic field and grow towards the future of the aesthetic industry.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening my own business definitely had its ups and downs. When I decided to go on my own, I had started off in a suite.
This didn’t last long; I had so many ideas but little room to grow. I went searching for a place where I could fulfill my dreams, and when I found it, I took a leap of faith and went for it. However, there was a slight situation. The place I found was over 20 times the size I originally had.
I was upgrading from one treatment room to six treatment rooms in a matter of months. How was I supposed to afford that? Luckily for me, I managed to build a team comprised of women I trusted fully.
Slowly, we are working on building our clientele for Skinful Aesthetics together.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very shy. Especially when I was young. I still can be sometimes, but as I have gotten older, I have broken out of my shell a bit. I wouldn’t say I’m a total extrovert now, but I am working on it.
If you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I don’t think I would have pictured myself as an esthetician. I’m pretty sure I would have told you I wanted to be an artist or maybe even a zookeeper.
