Today we’d like to introduce you to Ines Alvidres.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
FRIENDLY ABSTRACT STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART
My story began as a kindergarten student in Chihuahua, Mexico. The act of coloring and doing what kindergarteners do felt so nurturing. But it was just a feeling because I was never exposed to artwork until I moved to the United States many years later. While still living in Mexico, I discovered the foundation of what would one day become my paintings – the Tarahumara Indians. They themselves were art – colorful and authentic, with something unknown and mysterious.
When I moved to the United States at sixteen, I was fearful and insecure from not speaking the language. But in art class, with a pencil and a sketchbook, again I was safe. After high school, the closest thing to art that seemed attainable was drafting school. But when it became computers, a desk, and four walls, it didn’t feel right. I knew I couldn’t do it for the rest of my life.
Around 2011, I found another side of Beaumont I had never known – a group of amazingly talented artists and musicians. At first, everyone seemed like superstars. It only took me a couple of months to be friends with them and realize they were kind, supportive, and encouraging.
In 2014, I had my first gallery exhibit at Victoria House. From there, to an antique store that I was afraid to walk in, then a local museum. It taught me to never underestimate the venue. I’ve exhibited in Austin in an ice cream shop, local coffee shops, and breweries.
Currently, I regularly show my work at the City of Beaumont events, local restaurants, and businesses. Almost everywhere in my city I go, I see artwork that is mine. After being afraid to show, it’s a beautiful surprise. Beaumont has truly opened its arms and embraced me and my art.
CHILDHOOD MEMORY
My favorite childhood memory was visiting the cathedral in Chihuahua. I remember sneaking in when no one was there. It was just me and the big church. When I looked up, I saw this magnificent structure cast in gold. I remember I had my backpack and I only stayed a few minutes. It was the first and only time I was there.
WHAT IS SUCCESS
Success is being grateful for what you have right now. The fact that I get to paint every day and share this with a lot of people is a success. Discipline is so important and so hard. Be joyful. Perseverance is so important. And patience. I’m really patient. Even in traffic.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
STRUGGLES
Since I began sharing my art with the world, I have changed beyond what I ever imagined. The things I never thought possible became possible. The things today I see as impossible, I know can become reality. I see the doubts and fears as lessons. Everywhere I go, everyone, I meet, every conversation is a part of the learning journey.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I create friendly abstract – it is satisfying to those who love abstract art and friendly to those who don’t. My art is known for its vibrant color that creates a positive emotion. From murals to canvases, large and small, my art inspires others to see the beauty in everything and everyone. I offer art lessons to adults and children and teach them how to be an artist. My desire to create is inexhaustible and I stay true to my vision no matter what I am painting. I am most proud of the name AMARTE Studio and what it means – to love art, to love yourself, and to love others.
