Today we’d like to introduce you to Inez Arevalo.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had several different cleaning companies clean our house when we first bought it (2012) but wasn’t satisfied, specifically with the bathroom shower door which always had soap scum no matter who cleaned it. I was getting ready to replace the shower door! I started doing some research online and came across products that were not brand name and easy to buy at grocery store to try making the shower door transparent again. They worked! That is how the idea started to perhaps start our own cleaning company and making sure every area of the house was cleaned perfectly.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The first year was a bit difficult because we didn’t have clients and only 2 employees. We tried different advertising methods and the most simple and affordable ones worked. We started growing in size and able to hire more cleaners and offer more hours but it did take close to 1 yr. of constant advertising to achieve that. One of the main struggles was finding the right supplies to use for those who had allergies, pets, etc. With time we got to personally know each client and what they needed or wanted. For example – one client prefers lemon scented products and we remember that every 2 weeks when their house is cleaned. Another client loves Orange Glo Wood Furniture polish used on all of their furniture, while their neighbor doesn’t like wood polish used at all. We try to accommodate all of our clients and make sure they’re happy. It was not an easy first year, had a lot of trial and errors but happy to share that we’ve grown and expanded into office/commercial cleanings too.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with A Cleaning to Remember – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am the owner, I handle the accounting/financial aspects since I studied for that. I do use Payroll and Accounting software (no longer excel time sheets I created like at beginning) and I oversee all aspects of the business. Although I do not personally clean the houses, I am kept up to date on every client and every house or business cleaned. I am proud that we have grown, that our clients have expressed how happy they are with our services, that although there are so many other cleaning companies now in our area, clients have remained loyal to us. It makes me see that our supplies do remove even the hardest stains from showers, kitchen ovens and that sets us apart from the others. When a new client schedules weekly or biweekly services immediately after their first cleaning, it proves we are doing things right.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Plans for the future include purchasing more vans, hiring more personnel and making more teams (0f 3 cleaners) along with growing in different areas. At this moment, we service Pearland, Fresno, Sugar Land, Missouri City, Alvin, Friendswood, Rosharon and Medical Center. One day I would like to have a team in Humble, a team in Katy and one in North Houston because we get so many calls from those areas but we unfortunately cannot service at this time.
